D3 Qualitative Research
Qualitative research has made critical contributions to health care and clinical decision-making by offering insight into the conceptualization of patients’ experiences, health, and care delivery (Chafe, 2017). Leading qualitative approaches, including grounded theory, narrative methods, and ethnography, are utilized in pursuing various health topics. Qualitative research facilitates clinical decision-making and nursing practice by providing information on the best patient intervention and implementation of care.
The healthcare sector is dynamic, and this calls for practitioners to make changes to improve healthcare outcomes. Qualitative research is pivotal in health care and clinical decision-making as it offers idiographic information concerning human experiences (Miller, 2010). Nurses can apply the knowledge gained from qualitative findings to treat patients in comparable situations with those depicted in the study improving care provision. Nurses can use qualitative research findings to get information about patients’ needs, experiences, and behaviors, and this enhances decision-making.
Qualitative research is pivotal in healthcare as it provided conceptual, symbolic, and instrumental utility (Miller, 2010). Theoretical utilization refers to how nurses perceive caregiving. Symbolic utilization supports a given practice or position in healthcare. Instrumental utilization is defined as the application of the findings that have reviewed, for example, appraisal tools and standards of care. It follows that qualitative research has resulted in changes in clinical communication, offered information on how contextual and individual factors influence intervention, and affected nurses’ understanding of patients resulting in the application of appropriate approaches.
Qualitative research is imperative in healthcare research and facilitates clinical decision-making. Its significance can be observed in nursing practice as it provides clinical insight that can be used to comprehend the different illnesses and patients’ needs and behaviors. Nurses apply it in the evaluation of patients’ progress based on qualitative findings. The discussion proves that qualitative research findings improve clinical decision-making and healthcare.
