Data-Based Changes

Introduction

The dynamics in the world populations and related challenges make the healthcare systems face different challenges that require the use of modern technologies to keep up with the variations. The healthcare systems strive to improve health results and contain the operation cost at the same time. In such cases, big data and data mining techniques can health these systems meet these goals in unprecedented means. Both data mining and Big Data approaches are involved in the use of large complex datasets meant to achieve the purposes of the health care system. This paper intends to reveal data complexity as one aspect of both Big Data and data mining that can be of benefit in health care systems.

Big data has been one of the significant fields of research and knowledge in healthcare systems that have resulted in massive transformations in operations in modern society. Data sets in Big Data are typically large such that a standard database software tool cannot capture, manage, store or analyze. Big Data is characterized by  Variety, velocity, volume, value, and Veracity of data.  The complexity of Big Data is structured from combining different types of electronically captured data and processes information. Big Data allows healthcare systems to use new platforms, methodologies, and tools in structuring and storing meaningful data. They can capture data from mobile phone apps, telemedicine, social media, healthcare records, and pharmaceutical data. The healthcare givers use the Data Mining technic to search the patterns, consistency, and the relationships created by the variable. Applying the patterns in a new pattern makes them validate their finding in research (Gaya, 2017). Data mining is essential to health care systems because it allows one to understand the relevant information obtained from Big Data to asses new scenarios in health care. The relationships can assist the practitioners in predict algorithms such as Linear regression

Data mining and Big Data are beneficial to healthcare systems in that the practitioners can use large amounts of data. Collecting data elements of the patients and linking it to assorted data from various sources can assist them in coming up with new approaches to enhance health. This case is valid because these datasets can reveal the causes and results of an illness, the best-suited medication, improve predictions of diseases, and ultimately develop proper means for disease preventions (Pastorino et al., 2019). The world population is faced with variations that may affect the healthcare systems and their sustainability. In the modern world. Most countries have an increased life expectancy; thus, more people are expected to live longer, but this does not guarantee healthy and individuals. The variations in lifestyle and the harmful effects of technology in the current societies indicate that their occurrence of new health conditions; thus, the nations are bound to face pressure on economic productivity and health care costs. In this case, healthcare systems can use data sharing approaches to improve patients’ results. Besides, they can make sound health care decisions that are based on evidence. Using Data mining techniques makes it possible for health practitioners to obtain earlier diagnosis through prediction, thus helping in improving treatment qualities by discovering early signals. Early interventions on a disease decrease the occurrences of adverse reactions.

Continuity Planning

Continuity planning comprises of information and procedures established, compiled, and maintained to prepare an organization in case there is an occurrence of emergencies or disasters. Continuity planning assists organizations to resist and bounce back after extreme conditions. It documents and the continuity and recovery processes during and after disasters. The core purpose of this strategy is handling threats in an organization and continue the operations with minimum disruption time during a crisis. The technique allows the management to come up with plans before the occurrence of a disaster on how to handle transactions and preserve the organization to continue offering services (Ghandour, 2014). When planning, the organization has time, staffing, and money in mind because these are the most sensitive elements for resilience during disasters. This technique requires comprehensive processes of creating and documenting procedures and steps that allow the organization to respond to the expected and unexpected interferences in the organization. The nature of the predicted crisis determines the number of workers required to handle the issue. Expertise and workforce are essential in ensuring that the new environment created by the crisis is bearable for the business. The monetary aspect assists the organization set aside funds such as salaries and production costs. The set-aside funds should be able to sustain the operations throughout the predicted time. When planning, the aspect of time should be thoroughly studied because it may be challenging to know the exact duration the crisis will last.

As a director, one is supposed to take measures to prepare for and eliminate the impacts of disasters of the business before they occur. This approach requires that one predict the occurrence of disaster and prevent its influence as much as possible through mitigations. Mitigation reduces the impacts of the hazards and enables the business to respond effectively to the consequences. Preparedness programs allow the directors to develop a platform to make realistic, practical, and coordinated planning that can save the operations from unpleasant challenges or obstacles.  The steps involved in the preparedness program include a risk assessment. It is crucial to asses the internal and external factors that revolve around the risk of adequate preparedness. The other step is assessing the sensitive business functions and how they can be affected by the crisis. The additional step involves preparing the supply chain by making sure that each branch of the chain is addressed. The data collected in the steps should be well analyzed and saved in the original copy and a backup copy. These analyses will help create a plan for emergency management planning. Typically, this step is all about creating communications plans, assembling resources, and choosing alternative locations for the business. Also, the program requires reviewing insurance coverage. It is also advisable that the director should test the plan to determine the effectiveness of the crisis. This preparedness program would be useful in protecting the employees, assets, and reduce impacts on the environment and communities around when the disasters occur.

Benefits And Drawbacks Of Informatics In Nursing

Nursing informatics is a crucial aspect in healthcare systems where the nurses can combine computer science, nursing science, and information science developed to allow the process and manage nursing data. Nursing informatics describes competencies, which include their computer literacy and information management. These informatics are highly associated with the professional performance and standard practices of the nurses. The nurses, in his case, can be categorized as practicing nurses and intended nurses (Ainsley & Brown, 2009). Nurses generally can enroll in nursing programs at colleges or universities for higher education online to enhance their level of professionalism and improve opportunities for career development. Most registered nurses feel inadequate about how to uses information technology to improve patient care. Informatics technology helps the nurses develop and obtain new information technologies to solve given challenges in specified areas such as economics or biology. Informatics also deals with hoe nurses to transform technology and how it transforms them. Nursing information is a multidimensional, contextually dependent, and complex system meant to enable nurses to meet their patient-centered care goals. It is comprised of interventions, communication, and value. Apart from the basics such as using MS Word, the nurses require skills such as handling statistical analysis and the use of databases for effective delivery of care.

The drawbacks of nursing informatics mainly comprise of the processes involved in acquiring information or using online to educate nurses. The educators may not understand the needs of the students since they are remotely located. They may not know whether the students are scoping the required information from the training (Ainsley & Brown, 2009). Instructional technology can be a barrier to learning for the students that online instructors may not consider significant because he or she do not understand their disabilities. These scenarios hinder the providence or promotion of an atmosphere for the nursing student to learn efficiently. Several teaching techniques do apply to nurse classes online. For instance, question answers learning technic may be hindered by the online environment. The author of the article recommends that the institutions should take advantage of professional development opportunities that can promote the attitude of the students to learning. Promoting technological skill and awareness in learning makes the students develop the desire to learn and keep up to date their skills.

Conclusion

The healthcare systems require the use of modern technology to provide patient-centered care. Technics such as using Big Data and data mining help the caregivers obtain, manage, and compare information that enhances health promotion and prevention. Also, continuity planning is essential in predicting a crisis in an organization that assists them to keep offering services and minimize the impacts as much as possible. Preparedness program helps the directors in an organization take procedures and steps that help the business respond adequately during the occurrence of disasters. Nursing informatics also enhances care delivery in healthcare systems in that the nurses can learn online on how to use technology besides their skills to handle and manage data.
