Details of Tripura Solar Study Lamp (SSL) Scheme 2020-21
The Tripura government is coming up with the Solar Study Lamp (SSL) Scheme 2020-21, aiming the students. Under the Solar Lamp Yojana, the state government will give solar lamps to the students of low-income families. For each student, the Saur Urja Lamp will be given just for rupees 10. The scheme will be implemented in coordination with the SSL Scheme of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
In the first phase of the scheme, 3 lakh solar study lamps will be given to the students. The remaining lamps will be distributed in the second phase of the scheme. The central government will offer 80% of the fund that is required to manufacture the solar lamps under the scheme. The state government will give the remaining of the fund source.
The SSL has been given by Tripura Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma in a function at Bishramganj on the 11th of March 2020. However, the solar lamp scheme will be implemented by Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency.

Under the Tripura Solar Study Lamp (SSL) Scheme, the government will give the lamps for rupees 10 to the beneficiaries. As of the first phase, 3 lakhs students will get the lamps. In the second phase, an additional 3 lakh lamps will be given to other beneficiary students. Further sources say that the state government approached MNRE for the sanction of 3 lakhs SSL for the students of the northeastern state. As some remote and tribal areas do not get 24×7 electricity supply, the solar lamps will help.
Solar study lamps run on solar energy, and it helps the students to get a light source during the evening time so that they can study. Therefore, solar lamps are a good option for households who have to depend on kerosene lamps, which are their primary source of light. Considering the cost of the lighting of the lamps, efficiency of light, and its range, it is a beneficial to the source of light.
The solar lamp is installed with a photovoltaic module that can convert sunlight to electricity. As sunshine is the only input to light up the solar lamps. Therefore, the lamps are a good solution for low-income families in Tripura. Students who wish to study during the evening time can get the help of the lamps in their household throughout the monsoon seasons.
It is further known that at the inaugural event of the scheme, 519 solar study lamps have been given by the Deputy CM of the state for the help of the poor households. Therefore, the state government is trying its best to offer the best education benefits to poor students.
