The government and other medical institutions need to establish campaigns that create awareness about the importance of controlling diabetes during pregnancy.

Testing of blood sugar level is extremely important among 75% of the respondents and very important among 24 percent of the respondents. Blood sugar testing is a significant part of the diabetes treatment plan because it helps to reduce symptoms associated with diabetes. Electronic devices such as the glucose meter can be used at home to test of blood sugar level among pregnant women.

According to the survey conducted, 43% of the respondents were delighted with diabetic counselling in the UAE. Counselling deals with providing relevant information to pregnant women about diabetes and its effect on the unborn child, medications and lifestyle modifications. Advice regarding diabetes is offered to pregnant women in the UAE to help them manage the blood sugar levels as well as assisting them in dealing with depression..

Patients with diabetes during pregnancy experienced symptoms such as thirst, hunger, itchy skin and frequent urination. The signs and indicators of diabetes are excessive thirsts and prolonged urination among pregnant women. Itching during pregnancy among women with diabetes results from weak nerve fibres in outer skin layers. The survey established that the respondents were aware of gestational diabetes. They all agreed that it’s a condition that affects how the body cells regulate glucose during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes is responsible for hypoglycemia, which can affect fertility as well as the health of an infant. Expectant mothers can help manage gestational diabetes by eating a balanced diet, exercising or seeking treatment.

The respondents were aware of the causes of diabetes. They noted that Type 2 diabetes is the most common types of diabetes induced by numerous factors which include diet and lifestyle factors. They were also able to observe that Type 1 diabetes occurs when there is excess sugar in the blood the body’s metabolism that typically fights infections, attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.

The respondents were also aware of the diseases which are linked with diabetes. Diseases such as haemochromatosis, coeliac disease, dental health problems, thyroid disease, muscular conditions, polycystic ovary syndrome, mastopathy, diabetes insipidus as well as necrobiosis lipoidica diabeticorum are most common in people with diabetes. Most of the respondents were in agreement that diabetes is not a special need condition since it can be managed through proper diet, exercise and medication.
