I have chosen to use a pretest as my diagnostic assessment. I believe that by giving the students the pretest, they can tell what they know before actually learning the lesson. This also gives the students a chance to actually think while taking the test. As the students learn about literature and different books throughout the school year, they will be given a post test to see what they have learned throughout the school year and if any improvements have been made.
What I would like for my students to learn from this topic is:
- The main characters
- The Main idea of the story
- The setting of a story
- What happens in a story and why
- New literary vocabulary words
For scoring this assessment, I plan to use the Holistic Rubric. As students learn and improve throughout the semester, grading will change, whether they have improved or not.
