There are many differences between undergraduate and graduate studies. The significant differences are that undergraduate programs include general courses with a variety of subjects. While graduate studies are specialized, structured, and more advanced, undergraduate classes are much larger, and the students often work as an individual, the graduate student usually works together with their instructor. Many characteristics distinguish graduate and undergraduates, such as the associate and bachelor’s level. First and foremost, the graduate level is a more significant part of obtaining a graduate degree than any previous degree, as mentioned.
Graduate studies are more into research, while undergraduate work mostly on projects. Undergraduate studies can quickly transfer major courses and schools during the program. Still, because the graduate programs are specialized, it is much more difficult to change classes and schools because of different programs with different schools. This is important to graduate writing because, at this level, every aspect of the student’s writing is being judged harder than previous degrees. As an undergraduate, I worked full-time, attended class full time, and still able to take care of my family. This led to less time to study and sometimes unable to participate in group discussions. In graduates study, I need more time to work as a team player and be more responsible for managing my time. Graduate programs students can work closely with their professors, but with the undergraduate, the students are so many and less individualized. A graduate learning community as I understand it is a group of students and staff that has the same interest in objectives based on the area of study that allows these groups of people to learn, grow and develop together. The critical components of a learning community are- sharing knowledge, shared experience, and responsibility. Teamwork and organizing those courses are the subject matter. Graduate learning community focuses on milestones, graduate work, specialize, and research, while the undergraduate focus on project and general courses.
Finally, as to whether the methods are different or fundamentally the same, this is a matter of philosophy. Indeed, the techniques in graduate school build on those you learn during your undergraduate, and it is necessary to be an expert on the undergraduate methods before becoming a good graduate student. Depending on the field that may be enough to be competent for graduate research, or, you may have to learn entirely new ways of thinking.
