Introduction
There are multiple of good things that can be said about Dr Stockman from his way of thinking to the manner in which he carried himself. For instance, he is generous to his neighbour an element that can be seen at the beginning of the play when he invites his neighbours to his house. He consistently show that he wants to make the world a better place and show and interrupted will to do the right thing. Notably, his actions are guided by principles, a factor at make him to be stripped of his job, position in the society and his house. Beyond his good character, there are a also some elements that can be criticized about him including been inconsiderate to the welfare of his family, a factor that puts his family in the delicate situation. He is criticized as one of the character who is multidimensional. This essay aims at exploring the purpose, perception, attitude, behaviour and ethics of Dr Stockman in the play An Enemy of the People in relation to the conflicts created in the play. The purpose of Dr Stockman in the play is rather central in the play and its used to present people in the society who are willing to do anything for the good of the society. Though presented as an individual who is blinded by his own idealism, it clear that his intension are not greed oriented but they are meant to perpetuate a society that is ethically sober. In this regard, he is the major protagonist of the play who is carried away by his own passion and preservation of the truth in the society. When he discovers that there is a serious problem with the water baths, we expect that he will hid to his brother instructions, not to expose the story. However, he decides to do the contrary and this is where his purpose in the lay is first generated.
The attitude of Dr Stockman a resilient person who is guided by his own ideology. Though his altitude is effective in many cases, it rather clear that sometimes his altitude blinded his views and consequently affected those who were close to him. By been resilient in doing the right thing, he acts as the whistle-blower for the conditions of the baths. However, his attitude blinds him and he is not sure of when to stop. In another occasion, we find him suggesting that the only reason the leaders turned on him was because they were afraid. This notion shows how his attitude blinded his perception and eventually caused him to make naïve decision. Actually, the leaders were not afraid of him but rather they saw him as a barrier which they could easily get lead off.
In regard to detailed analysis of ethics, Dr Stockman can viewed as an individual who is guided by extreme idealism that are not practical. This notion does not mean that he is not a good person, but rather he lacks the administrative ethics needed to guide the society. In administrative ethics, there are two variables that considered when making a decision. One of the variable of the variable is the moral principle guiding a certain action or decision. The second variable is the consequences accrued to given action. In this regard, Dr Stockman ideological approaches are only guided by his own principles and he does consider the ethical consequences of his decision. He needed to strike a balance in his action as a administrator as duty is the core element of the public administrative ethics. It is his extreme ideologies that caused him his job, house and administrative role. Essentially, he was a good person in his actions and intentions but he needed a good ethical approach that could have ensured an optimum positive results.
The perception of the doctor was idealistic and it presented an ideal society that was guided by fixed moral principles. He wanted a considerate society that will take care of each person a situation commonly referred to as utopia. However, his perception were not realistic and could only be applied partially in administration of the community. This is based on the fact that there are many variables in the society that require the use a given moral principle and drooping another. This is what is referred as fairness and justice. It is difficult to achieve a perfect society when it comes to moral virtues and check and balance need to be put in place.

In conclusion, there is much you can criticize from the manner in which Dr Stockman is presented in the play. This is in regard to his perception, notion, ethics and attitude. He is developed as a character who show the other side of the administrative ethics by presenting his idealistic approach to issues. However, it is true to say that he was a good man despite his extreme nature in handling issues.
