Essay #2 Prompt
Instructions: For the second essay, students are required to devise a question or identify a problem on their own in reference to either Mother Courage and Her Children or Angels in America. The question/problem can take either a formalist, theoretical, or cultural studies approach, but regardless of the approach it should invite disagreement and/or skepticism from readers. It should also provide insight into or prompt further inquiry into a slightly larger topic in order to seem significant to the reader. Essays should be five pages in length, spend considerable time closely examining the text of the play under discussion, and engage at least one counter-argument. Students should also, in some fashion, engage and cite one text other than the play under the discussion. This can come from the course syllabus, or from independent research.[unique_solution]
There will not be any required peer-review sessions in class, but students will be offered three extra-credit points for visiting the Writing Resource Center and getting help with their paper. If the consultant that you meet with is someone other than Dr. Higgins, please have the consultant e-mail the professor to verify your visit.
