Assignment:
Bottom of Form
Purpose
Balancing multiple skills in a single assignment: persuasion, entertainment, audience analysis, analysis of a topic, and academic research.
Assignment
Create a 2- to 4-page review of a film of your choice, integrating academic research to support your assessment (1-2 sources).[unique_solution]
The review should include a BRIEF summary of the film (one paragraph) and analysis of film (or rhetorical) elements (two or more paragraphs). Refer to our notes for the anatomy of a film review. While the vocabulary presented in the film review notes must be used, you may also choose to review the film for its use of rhetoric as it relates to our discussion of rhetoric and popular culture.
The thesis of your essay should identify reasons you would or would not recommend the film to others. Your conclusion may include a rating based on a system of your own creation.
Audience
Your primary audience for every assignment will be your instructor, but you must determine your secondary audience. Film reviews are written differently depending on the publication.
Constraints
Although your style and language will be determined by your audience and ideal publication, you should be using MLA formatting and documentation guidelines. Your 1-2 sources should be cited both in-text and in a Works Cited page. Quotes and paraphrases should be integrated—no quotes should stand alone.
Reading Requirements
Refer to class notes for detailed information on the required structure and important points to consider for a film review.
Evaluation Criteria
The grading of this assignment will be based on completion of assignment requirements, grammar, punctuation, style, support, organization, and utilization of academic sources.
