Drug Trafficking
Meth is usually one of the common drugs in this city, also referred using several names such as crank and chalk, it’s one of the chief drug in this city market. It is a potent substance known for brain cells stimulation and mood enhancer. Currently the drug goes for between $2,000 and $2,500 for an ounce of the white powder. This drug is mostly trafficked from Mexico (Sherman & Rogan, 2015).
Considering the price given for one ounce of the white powder clearly sheds a bright light on how much a drug dealer invests in such an illegal business. Drug trafficking is illegal in United States and anyone caught is entitled for some 20 years sentence. Such a dealer being caught will have to lose a lot of money as well as being imprisoned for such a period. This is barrier to community development because if this was a legal business would mean creation of employment and expansion (Sherman & Rogan, 2015).
Drug Manufacturing
Apart from trafficking Meth, the drug is also manufactured in this city from local household products such as acetone, hydrochloric acid, anhydrous ammonia, toluene and sulfuric acid. This is to some extend strange considering that these chemicals are used as nail polish remover, making fertilizer and brake fluid. This is an indication of how the drug is likely to cause health problems to the users. A lot of money has been spend in this community to treat such diseases as cancer which may have been used in other beneficial activities such as starting businesses or even expanding the existing ones. Death cases out of this drug are rampant leaving children orphans (Braga, 2012).
Drug Paraphernalia
Street drugs can also be easily found in the streets of Kansas City. These include cocaine, heroin and Ecstasy. Drug paraphernalia describes the equipment used to inject these drugs or administer. For instance, Ecstasy is commonly being administered using syringes. Common research has indicated that the users usually use one syringe to administer this drug. This has led to huge spread of diseases such as AIDs. This affects the whole community since the diseases have spread from the users of these drugs to even family members. It results to a lot of money being spent in treatments as well as resulting to deaths. This is a negative effect on the Kansas City community since it drags development (Sherman & Rogan, 2015).
Drug Possession
It is a crime under both the federal and state laws to be caught in possession of an illegal drug such as cocaine, heroin in Kansas City. Any person caught with such a drug is either charged of simple possession or intent to distribute. The simple charges apply to people who are caught with small amounts while those with large amounts are charged with intent to distribute. In any case the victim is entitled for imprisonment. Many youths in Kansas City are victims of this circumstance. This is a drag to community development since those youths would be working and earning living instead of serving in prison. This is a negative effect to the community at large (Braga, 2012).
