Depending on the job, responsibility, and role, one will need some background knowledge and skills to be rendered fit, most of which are learned in school. Education and training also make individuals analyze situations in a more intelligent way and with great mindfulness, which promotes productive output (Foran, 2020). Besides, it allows one to present various professional certifications to be recruited into the position according to the country, state, or organization’s legislation.
Work experience: Proven work experience as either a human resource manager or other executive position in the human resource department. Human resource metrics experience. Usually, the more work experienced one is, the more his or her skills, knowledge, and ability to handle simple and complex situations effectively. Certain positions, such as managerial posts, require some extent of prior exposure to a similar work environment to respond effectively (Foran, 2020). Besides, experience in a field adds specific skills, knowledge, and expertise that are not taught in class, but crucial in their daily roles and responsibilities. Thus, a person with minimal required work experience may be more equipped than a fresh graduate.
Competency: Ability to build and maintain interpersonal relationships, architect strategy with leadership skills and excellent listening, presentation, negotiation, and conflict solving skills. Should be team and result oriented as well. Competency is crucial because it will specify how the potential recruit will utilize their skills and knowledge (Bell & Smith, 2010). One may have the skills and knowledge, but lack or are ineffective in exploiting them to realize a better outcome for the organization and the individual. Competency help determines individuals who can work in line with the organizational culture, including being respectful to management, efficient, team-oriented, and time manager.
