Introduction
We are currently living in the information technology era. Almost every part of our lives is embedded and dependent on the use of information technology. From our online presence with the use of social media to businesses’ operational reliance on online platforms such as cloud services to help in enhancing their performance. As a result, a vast amount of our sensitive and personal information is made available online. However, not every single person or individual is well aware of the risks we are faced with from cybersecurity. Enterprise security management as a class has educated and made me aware of the various dangers of online scams, phishing, and other cyber-related threats, which is a required component for every organization. This is so as one of the main objectives of the course is to ensure that all students enrolled in the course gain enough knowledge to have a basic understanding of the purpose of security management within a saleable organization (Petruzzi, 2016). This generally includes a fundamental understanding of the main functions of risk reduction, security, good practice, and threats with regards to security management.
The course has provided me with enough details to venture further into my dream role in a challenging and rewarding career as a security management specialist. Enterprise security management has equipped me with the fundamentals of resilience and security functions, which are generally focused and managed towards the protection of the business, its employees, the brand, data, and information assets. With the use of interdependent systems implemented in multiple layers. The class has also taught me the general importance of enterprise security, more importantly, when dealing with cybersecurity. In promoting organizational success and performance, security must be given more attention.
Additionally, enterprise security management has equipped me with the best practices in several disciplines, and they include The ability to identify important corporate assets and critical infrastructures. Once the assets have been identified, the process of threat identification begins against the assets—the assessment of resilience risks and security protocols. And once the threats have been identified, the production, adoption, and implementation techniques of security procedures and policies are then made possible with the knowledge I gained from the class.
Further lessons and knowledge gained from the class are based on conducting risk and threat assessments, which are designed to help an organization in preventing data and information theft, as well as the prevention of extremist or malicious attacks. Auditing and monitoring techniques are critical practices towards ensuring corporate security, which I have also gained from the class. Lastly, the much-needed knowledge I have learned from the course has made me knowledgeable enough to enable me to share my skills with other individuals. This can be in the form of providing an awareness and training program to the general public.
