DirectionsWrite an expository essay that explains and discusses a global women’s rights issue of your choice. This is not a standard five-paragraph essay. This essay will have four sections as follows: 1. Topic Background– expository a. Explain the who, what, when, where, and why of the situation. How does this issue relate to women’s rights? What is the history and context?[unique_solution] 2. Relation to Text(s)– analytical a. Choose a text we have read in this class—True Grit, Reading Lolita in Tehran, or The Color Purple. b. Include two quotations from this text and explain how that quotation shows thematic connection to the global rights issue you have researched. c. For each of the two quotations from your selected text, use at least one quotation from one of your secondary sources about your topic to support the connection you are drawing. 3. Activism—expository and analytical a. Explain what some people/humanitarian groups/governments are doing about that situation. b. Explain complications such as various sides / perspectives that complicate this issue being resolved. c. Suggest any ideas of your own to help remedy the situation. 4. Going Forward—analytical a. Think about and discuss the following questions a. What do we learn from this issue (big picture takeaways)? b. How does the information you researched and learned affect your opinions, and how may it influence your future actions? Paper Assignment Requirements • Typed • MLA formatting • Do not use contractions/first and second-person pronouns. You may use first-person pronouns in the third and fourth sections. • At least three secondary sources about your issue with correct in-text citations, of which at least one is obtained through library database research. • Works Cited page that includes the novel and your three secondary sources.
