Ethics paper
Ethics refers to the moral principles that oversee the behavior of a person and how they conduct activities. Ethics play a significant role in determining the way leads their lives and make decisions. It is related to what is best for society and individuals. Ethics is concerned with resolving questions about human morality by differentiating right and wrong, good and evil, justice and crime, virtue, and vice (McCloskey, 2017). It can also be considered to be a field of intellectual inquiry and solves dilemmas such as rights and responsibilities, moral decisions, and how to lead a good life. The mindset of Johnny will change after enrolling in this class because he will learn ethical concepts that will help him in his daily life. He will now be able to tell rig from wrong and be able to choose the right choice that brings more benefits to him and society.
What course concepts may trigger that change (a reading(s), or posting(s), discussion(s) with colleague(s) for example).
Different concepts may trigger the change of Johnny’s mind after enrolling in the course. One of the significant course concepts is the readings that contain information about ethics and its application in different aspects of life. The readings also provide case studies and stories of real-life issues that will enable him to learn more. Also, the readings contain questions that trigger critical thinking and analytical skills.
Three ways Johnny would be able to apply the course learnings to his life so he can assess his future course enrollment.
There are several ways through which Johnny can apply the course readings in his life. First, he can use the learning to enhance his critical thinking skills as well as his analytical skills. The readings contain questions and prompt that critical trigger thinking. Second, Johnny can apply the course readings to improve his problem solving skills (Ferrell & Fraedrich, 2015). The readings would help him to appropriately solve problems in his and other people’s lives. Finally, the course leanings could help Johnny make the right decisions.
Discussion #2
The Value Of A Business Code Of Ethics
Business codes of ethics are critical for the survival of businesses and the provision of value to society. Part of business ethics involves avoiding bribery and other forms of corruption, as well as complying with the laws that govern business practice. The US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) of 1977 plays a critical role in the governance and regulation of business practices and combating corruption (FCPA Compliance Guide, 2019). Results show that the FCPA has a global jurisdiction, and it is widely enforced throughout the world, and there are increased enforcement actions, imprisonment, and fines.
Having business codes of ethics is critical for all business operations. One of the benefits is business ethics set the right business culture. It builds an environment of trust, excellence, and integrity and also allows employees and other stakeholders to behave ethically (Trevino & Nelson, 2016). When all business stakeholders, from the managers to the chauffeurs and tea girls, behave in a particular way towards each other, conflicts tend to be minimal, and productivity goes up. There is also the disappearance of confusion in the workplace.
A good reputation is more important than money. In the current corporate world, customers consider other things and not just the price tag. There are several choices of products and services, and customers need more than just adverts to make purchase decisions. Businesses with a good reputation are always at an upper end because customers look for referrals from friends and families and usually stay away from companies that do not promote ethical behavior. Paying strong attention to ethics help companies to attract more customers and other useful business partners.
