Ethnic and Cultural Diversity
Diversity in learning institutions mostly revolves around the concept of having a heterogeneous environment. Many individuals believe that institutions with diverse environments tend to perform better than those institutions with homogenous students and subordinate staff. A common event that many individuals have witnessed in institutions of learning is ethnic and cultural differences. Diversity works in our social world just like biodiversity works in the ecosystem. Its making diversity an important characteristic of nature (Lozano & Escrich, 2017). Many individuals usually apply too much pressure on being different from others forgetting that diversity is not an issue that needs solving (Lozano & Escrich, 2017). Diversity is a natural situation that needs to be appreciated. Environments that have adapted to cultural and ethnic diversity thrive naturally. If institutions are to prosper cultural diversity should be a non-issue and individuals trying to challenge it should be ignored because nature cannot be challenged.
Cultural and ethnic diversity has grown in many learning institutions all over the world. The growth is supported by globalization. Cultural and ethnic diversity is an event that has impacted me greatly in the learning institution. Interacting with students from different cultures has taught me how to analyze and handle matters differently. Appreciating the cultures of other individuals enables us to view things from other perspectives (Lozano & Escrich, 2017). Without different cultures in our learning institutions, it would have been very difficult to handle issues differently. Interacting with individuals from other cultures and ethnic diversities has enabled me to do away with misconceptions that I held onto about certain cultures. Cultural diversity has helped me eliminate the issue of culture, for so long I was afraid of visiting other foreign countries but after getting a chance to meet and interact with other students, it is mot such a bad idea to travel to other foreign countries.
