Evidence-based Nursing
Evidence-based nursing is the practice of combining knowledge from several journals to come up with a reformed decision on the medication to administer or maybe addition research to do. The implementation of evidence-based nursing is based on the evidence-based practice that involves the combination of up to date methods of providing health care. Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is the infection that affects any of the parts in the urinal system. UTI is more prevalent in ladies, and the infection begins with bacteria entering the Urinary tract and then starts multiplying in the bladder. Evidence-based nursing can give a helping hand in devising ways or sensitizing people on the ways of preventing Urinary tract infection.
Evidence-based nursing undergoes seven critical steps before achieving the primary goal. According to (Melnyk, 2010), leads to higher quality care, improved patient outcomes, reduced costs, and greater nurse satisfaction than traditional approaches to healthcare. The different steps involved in evidence include creating a spirit of enquiry, asking questions concerning clinical issues, find the best evidence to use, do an appraisal to the evidence provided, integrate clinical expertise to the evidence obtained evaluate any possible outcomes in the event a decision is made, provide results and then make decisions based on the decisions made. The consistency in the implementation of evidence-based practice depends on a nurse’s ability to implement the seven steps efficiently. Also, it serves better when nurses have excellent computer and internet skills that are necessary for conducting organized research. However, a critical step happens before the seven steps, which is gaining familiarity with the topic of interest and setting goals to have achieved before the end of the study.
Evidence-based nursing can work correctly to solve the problem of unfamiliar but hazardous health conditions. Urinary Tract Infection is an unfamiliar condition that mainly affects the women and most prevalent among women at later ages. However, the unfamiliarity associated with the condition does not prevent it from spreading rapidly and has currently hit an all-time highest rate of one in every two women per lifetime in particular developing countries. The fact that UTI affects women unselectively for pregnant women, quick responses are required to protect the infection from harming the fetus or moving up to the kidneys of the victim . Evidence-based nursing comes in to compile research concerning the causes of the disease, the risk factors, the preventive measures as well as the history of past treatments done on infected individuals. Enquiries should be made by the nurses to get the views of the infected women concerning the impact of lifestyle on the prevalence of the infection. Also, the nurses should ensure a wide range of expert interviews and data analysis to check for any patterns in the spread of the disease. Upon completing the study, the nurses should compile a detailed report aimed at giving a solution to the epidemic as well as giving a recommendation to for further studies in the event of gaps in the study already done.
In sum, evidence-based nursing is the process of making clinical decisions based on research done on a specific field of study. Evidence-based nursing can be used to control the spread of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
