Evidence-Based Practice in medical field involves the integration of the best research evidence with medical expertise. The integration of EBP involves expert opinion, external scientific evidence, and client values. Since EBP is a clinician task to utilize the best scientific evidence to give the best advice possible, EBP should be a continuous process. A literature review is intensive research on related fields to discover what other researchers have already done as well as what needs to be done on the field.
In EBP, evidence is a piece of information that can be used to support from different sources. The evidence is obtained from journal articles written by scholars needs to have been written by individuals with an interest in the medical sector. Journal articles are always published in a series of publications concerning a specific field of study. An organized review of a study concerning a specific field by individuals with a similar goal is referred to as a peer review.
A literature review involves organized research of already done analyses to analyze what other researchers have done on the field. The main objectives of the literature review include learning new ideas from the existing researches, criticizing the already done analyses and improving on the already done analyses. A good literature review includes details of the reviewed sources, methods used in the studies, strengths, and weaknesses, gaps in the studies and conclusions made from the review.
The acronym IMRaD stands Introduction Method Results and Discussion, which is a way structuring a scientific article. IMRaD is often used in health care and the natural sciences but does not include a separate theory chapter like the case of social sciences. EBP is the task of a clinician to utilize the best scientific evidence to give clinical advice to the clients.
