Evidence of Performance
Overview
Identification of appropriate techniques of communication when addressing people with developmental disabilities.
When communicating, illustrate what an individual has, not what he/she is. People with disabilities need to be appreciated just like others; they feel incredible when recognized by the community. It is entirely advisable to provide or offer a handshake when you get introduced to a person with a disability, even if the limitation involves artificial limb or limited hand. Shaking of hands with the left side is also allowed and acceptable Dufin, J. et al. (2010). Treat people with disabilities by communicating or addressing them the same way you would do any other person in similar conditions. For instance, if the first name always discusses someone, then by all possible means, apply the same to a person with a disability. I strongly advised people to practice these methods when interacting with individuals in my class, people with developmental disabilities. These techniques helped in the mode of communication between the two different groups of folks; they felt being members of the society too; they felt the love of their friends through proper discussion started by appropriate mode of greetings.
Identification of opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to exercise self-sufficiency and self-determination
In my class, I strongly proposed any ideas and strategies that would assist in the identification of opportunities that would offer self-determination and self-sufficiency. I believe that people with developmental disabilities should also be given a chance to make decisions and their views as others do and be followed. In my field, this motivated the students and was able to raise their opinions freely. They should have freedom of choice to pointing out their wants without being opposed by fellow individuals. This gave them not only motivation but also confidence in everything they do Fontana-Lana, B., & Petitpierre, G. (2017). Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
Interpersonal collaboration when developing person-directed supports
People with developmental disabilities should be embraced through interacting with them entirely, respond to their wishes, and offer necessary support they require Bengtson, E. (2019). I played the most significant role in my class and as an example to interact with my autism students while encouraging others to do as I was. I also supported the theory of social model disability, which is the way folks view the world, developed by disabled individuals. The model affirms that individuals are disabled by barriers, not impairment. If we can recognize them and remove them from disabled people, then we will create independence, control, and choice for an individual with disabilities.
Identification of methods for developmentally disabled people to foster self-determination
Self-determination is crucial in raising self-esteem. It offers people with disabilities total knowledge and how to behave, plan, and organize for their success despite their challenging conditions. Research has also discovered that students with self-determination record best grades as they perform high and associated freely with others. By understanding this, I involve my student in decision making to improve their self-esteem, which in turn influence the total quality of their experiences in life and interact with other individuals inside school and outside learning institutions. In regards to this, I strongly encouraged the social role of valorization, which is the set of useful ideas that assist making a positive influence in the lives of people disadvantaged due to their status in the community (Wolfensberger & Thomas, 2005).
Facilitation of informed decision making
People with disabilities should be empowered and assisted in making decisions that will help them in their future, relating to fellow individuals and the community at large. As a result, I assisted individuals in my class in making the proper decision that will influence or impact their lives positively in and out of learning institutions.
Identification of effective communication with developmentally disabled people
People need to communicate with each other to interact quickly and efficiently. It is through communication where you can identify and recognize other person’s needs, create friendship, and also enemies. I taught my students the practical techniques of communication that will assist them in encouraging peace and harmony wherever they interact with others, such as learning institutions, working institutions, and spiritual places.
