Experience in Class during the First Semester

There is no doubt that my experience in the first semester was characterized by interaction with my fellow students and instructors, as well. There has been a remarkable transition in terms of confidence. Initially, I was shy, but the experience I have acquired has enabled me to be capable of facing challenges. The most remarkable change I have witnessed during this semester is the improvement in my reading speed and comprehension, which at the beginning of the semester was worrying. The approach applied by our instructor on the use of question and discussion has contributed to total overhaul in my general speed and comprehension skills.

At the beginning of the semester had difficult in my speed of both writing and reading. Poor vocabulary gave me a hard time in which I was unable to read very first. I could even construct a sentence of ten words without staggering on the way or finding myself repeating the same words in the sentence. I remember my first experience with the instructor; I was given a chance to read an excerpt of about one paragraph (Seabra, Dias, Mecca & Macedo, 2017). The experience I had was devastating since it took me more than five minutes when it was to take two minutes.  I was embarrassed by the comments from my colleagues on my inability to comprehend correctly.

However, the semester has been characterized by a lot of intervention from both the instructors and students, leading to improvement in the writing skills.

First, it started with being exposed to numerous questions that were well structured by the instructor. We used to answer the questions under the given duration of time daily. The questions were designed in a way that they had a wide range of vocabulary, which helped me as a student in comprehending.  After doing the problems, reading and understanding was the next step, which proved how vast the exercise has been. In the long run, I saw drastic improvements in how I comprehended. The training equipped with enormous knowledge by changing my attitudes towards comprehension. The use of question techniques proved efficient in shaping my comprehension and reading skills.

Similarly, the semester was characterized by a discussion approach in which the instructor put more emphasize on shaping our comprehension and reading skills.  I was pleased with the fact he used to encourage us on the need to dwell on the discussion.  The instructor was strict on this by directing us to be in conversation and making sure we do constructive work (Seabra, Dias, Mecca & Macedo, 2017). Though he was not physically, he had put in place measures that kept our toes.  During the discussion, it provided me with a vast feel to integrate with other students who helped in shaping my reading and comprehension skills.

We could tease each other on how fast one will take in comprehending a given passage. I was impressed by these activities in which galvanized our ability to become the best readers. It was evident that this approach had yielded results, especially when I was given a chance for the second time during our last class to read a passage (Seabra, Dias, Mecca & Macedo, 2017). It was impressive how; it took me a shorter time than expected by many in comprehending. The smooth and the flow of words were exemplary well as the instructor put it at the end of the exercise.

In conclusion, use question and discussion was an essential part of this semester in which shaped my reading speed and comprehension. They were critical and made my semester to be more enjoyable as well as informative. The approach proved to the essential pillar for developing one reading speed and comprehension. As we come to the end of this semester, I believe the same approach will be applied in our future engagements to make our interactive session with our instructors more interesting.
