This movie explains how the African people suffered as a result of European settlement in America. When Europeans occupied the American land, they realized that land there was plenty and fertile and for that reason they begun growing crops in plantations (14:32)-(19:59). Consequently, these plantations required adequate labors. The Europeans turned on Africans and begun using them as laborers on the firms. This marked the beginning of slave trade. During slave trade, misery and suffering increased because people from different backgrounds were sailed together. (21:02)-(35:40)The situation was difficult for those who suffered or became weak on the way for they were thrown in water and eaten by fish. Slave trade became a peculiar institution and in this case however, if anybody was born to two slaves, he would serve as slave forever.

The second leg of Middle Passage explains how slave trade died in 1808 and people embarked on the Triangle Trade. The main leg of the Triangle began as slave boats, stacked down with merchandise like iron, cognac, weapons, and black powder, cruised from Europe toward the west bank of Africa (42:13-46:04). Here, they would exchange for slaves. The second leg, the Center Section, was the shipment of these slaves to the New World settlements where they would be sold and experience a ‘softening up’ procedure of a few years in manor work in the Caribbean or Focal or South America. The last leg of the excursion had returned to Europe, with merchandise delivered in the Americas: sugar, cotton, tobacco, rum, and molasses. Slave boats could make three or four circuits of the Triangle every year.
