Football in the new Europe
Football is an exciting outdoor game played by two teams comprised of eleven players each. The primary purpose of football is entertainment for the fans, but the players are mainly interested in competing for some predetermined prizes. Victory in football is rated according to goals scored. The scoring of a goal involves managing to kick the ball past the goalkeeper in-between the goal posts. Football is a game that requires physical exercise and is widespread across the whole world.
The history of football dates back to around 800 years ago but had to wait up to around 100 years before becoming the world’s most favorite game. The Romans are said to have spread football to Britain and was officially recognized as a sport in England in the year 1863 (King, 2017). The Football Association was later formed in England to become the first governing body to have governed football as a sport. In the years before the establishment of the Football Association, people used to play football without any formal procedure. The introduction of rules and the boundary of playing fields made the game more interesting, and people were slowly by slowly getting interested in the game. The sport continued growing in popularity and was later branded the name soccer. The Laws governing football originated from the Football Association of England. The international governing body of football is FIFA which is responsible for organizing major global football competitions. The highest ranked football competition is the FIFA world cup that is held every four years involving countries’ national teams representing all the continents.
In conclusion, football is undoubtedly the most popular game in the world. Football is played in almost all the countries with the central theme being competition for glory. The game is regulated by rules that apply both inside and outside the playing pitch.
