FSU college essay
When growing up you always aspire to be something big, I always thought that I wanted to become a doctor or maybe the closest thing to a doctor a nurse. Going to a medical arts high school made me realize that was not something that I wanted to do. Helping people has always been a passion of mines from helping my family to helping my community. Sophomore year of high school I finally realized what I wanted to be in life based off of a couple of events that happened to me and the people around me. battling depression and anxiety at such a young age made me realize that I want to help people that were just like me. People that are going through depression and other mental issues. Going into college the attended area of study that I wish to study in is psychology and here’s why.
Here’s my story growing up I can honestly say that I never had a real connection or even a connection at all with my mother. It even feels weird saying the word mother to describe her, she’s never been in my life at all. She’s never taken care of me, my mother has been in jail basically my whole life while growing up. So that may be one of the reasons why I went into my depression. Imagine growing up and never really having someone to talk to, not having that real mother figure to look up to, not having someone to lead you in life. Most people confide in their mother but for me, that’s not the case. Looking back I can tell you that as a kid I was very closed off my mom played a huge role in that and I knew it. My mom would always write me but I never wrote her back, I would always say that it was her fault that I couldn’t open up to people I knew that she was the reason why I went into my depression.
Going through depression made me feel weak I never wanted to go to anybody and tell them what I was really going through. My pride was way too high to even talk to my grandmother or aunt about it so I simply kept it to myself. My sophomore year of high school I realized that I wanted to help people that were going through the same things that I went through. People that are struggling with mental issues themselves because I know how it feels to go through something and not have a support system to help you get through it. This experience is what really made me realize that I wanted to major in psychology. Majoring in psychology would make me one step closer to becoming what I want to be.
