Genetics of Human Homosexuality

Remarkably, there are a variety of things that affect human beings, such as environmental and genetic factors. They influence the behavior of a person. Many human beings tend to exhibit the same questionable behaviors which need to be investigated, such as homosexuality. Homosexuality can be described as a romantic, sexual attraction, or also sexual behavior involving species of the same gender (Haag, 2019). Therefore it is essential to study how this phenomenon is possible.

However, the topic of homosexuality has been so controversial with different people giving different opinions. Most people highly condemn it, especially religious groups. However, scientists have proved that homosexuality is genetically caused and transmitted. According to research, a large percentage of people who exhibit homosexuality traits are due to their genetic composition (Gavrilets, Friberg, & Rice, 2018). And this has helped clarify the notion of most people who seem to hate and condemn homosexuals. Consequently, genetics has helped prove why homosexuals tend to behave in that way, which is not a common phenomenon.

Besides, homosexuality is a very distinct topic which has proved to be hard to research on by scientist. Most people in many countries, such as those that have prohibited the act, have failed to publicly declare their stand on the issue. Also, the homosexuals in those countries hide the fact that they are homosexuals (Haag, 2019). And therefore, this has created a significant problem in researching the issue. However, people in other countries such as the USA where the act is legal people do not fear to confirm their status as being gay. Therefore, research has been easy in these countries, confirming the issue that homosexuality in human beings can be mainly attributed to genes..

On the other hand, homosexuality is not only exhibited in human beings but also other animals. Scientists claim that there are over 450 species that portray homosexual behavior (Gavrilets, Friberg, & Rice, 2018). One of the most prevalent cases is found within domesticated sheep as a large percent of rams mate with each other. And this validates the statement that animals also have homosexual behavior though it is hard to explain how this is possible. And in most cases, these animals expose this behavior for only a short time.

Since biological factors are the ones that drive homosexual behavior, it is crucial to note which genes are responsible for the subject. Scientists linked the X chromosome in men as a driving force towards homosexuality. The gene responsible for this is referred to as SLITRK6 (Haag, 2019). And this gene is in the diencephalon part of the brain. It makes males to be attracted to each other. Also, in females, there is a gene called fucose mutarotase (Gavrilets, Friberg, & Rice, 2018). The study found that if the gene is not present in females, they tend to get attracted sexually to each other. They were, therefore, creating the notion that genes are responsible for homosexuality in human beings. Also, the genes are inheritable. There have been cases that when homosexuals, by any chance, get children, they may turn out to be gay. Consequently, this has cemented the fact that genes influence homosexuality.

All in all, it is essential to note that religious groups discriminate against a homosexual because they are very ignorant and do not know the facts. In most cases, homosexuality is not a choice but rather a genetic issue. Therefore homosexuals should be accorded respect and protected. Animals also show this trait, thus confirming that it is not an issue confirmed just to human beings. Before judging, it is good to understand the facts.
