Geography for Latin America

Question 1

Import-Substitution Industrialization is a term that is used to define the urge to promote local production as opposed to depending on international imports. People in the contemporary environment import many products, and this was present in Latin America as well. The principle was to ensure as time progressed, the country learned the importance of depending on itself as compared to associating with other countries. Neoliberalism is the direct opposite of Import-Substitution Industrialization, and the reason for this is that people could engage in free trade, and this was beyond different borders, consequently gaining all the commodities needed. It is essential to review the significant differences between these two social constructs, and the consequence of this is having a better understanding of Latin America and the strategy that it took.

The consideration of neoliberalism while concerned with human geography is enormous, and this is more so provided the fact that over one decade ago, this concept did not exist. Human geography has been significantly affected by this, and this is more so in Latin America. Initially, the region was very enclosed and avoided people from other areas. However, the city came to realize that it is hard to make it alone, and thus it opened up the borders. Some of the borderlines drawn by the traditional community were deleted, and this is a definite change in the geography of this region (Bosco & Jackiewicz, 2012). It is also important to note that there was the construction of various terminals to ensure that commodities from other countries and regions were stored well. As time progressed, most of these centers grew due to an increased number of people flowing into the area. With more people, the geography of the region changed to accommodate them, and this is considered one of the significant developments of the century.

Forms of travel around the world also changed. In Latin America, there was the construction of railways and roads as a means to boost the infrastructure of the region. The development of these structures and amenities changed the geography of the area. This was important because it enabled people in the country to transport their material to other regions in the city easily. Moreover, it was possible to have people from different countries quickly getting onto the area. The consequence of opening borders was increased trade between nations, which led to overall economic growth for both. The signing of the North American Free Trade Block was a significant impact on the geography of the Latin American region.

Consequently, Members of this bloc gained respect as opposed to previous assumptions that the region was depleted and did not have anything to offer. After consideration of how active this region was, it became possible for members of the bloc to uplift the physique of the country (Bosco & Jackiewicz, 2012). Many institutions set up shops where they would provide foreign commodities to Latin America. It is also important to note that before opening up of the region, some traders had initially tried accessing this region, and this is where they would not gain proper reception. It is because of this factor that there was general resentment and assumptions from the area.

It is also essential to go through the aspect of Import-Substitution Industrialization while relating to the same concept. Some people in Latin America were against the introduction of free trade, and this group of people was mostly located in the rural region. According to these people, it was a taboo to open up their God-given traditional land and, as of such, maintained their local areas. It is essential to note the adverse effects that came from this were rather impeccable. However, some benefits came from this strategy, and one of them is increased earnings in the rural regions. Most of the time, these people focused on local production. They feared that people in urban centers would turn to international food as a means of life if they allowed neoliberalism. True to this, when this concept came to be, the people in urban areas shifted to these new food commodities.

Most of the people that engaged in these activities were urban dwellers. They welcomed people from outside the country, and this angered the local dwellers a lot. For the people in rural areas, they continued carrying out their traditional businesses, and this did not disrupt them even a bit. Most of the local people managed to change their farming tactics and focused more on domestic production (Bosco & Jackiewicz, 2012). For people in urban areas, there was a group of wise economists that understood the dangers and benefits of opening up the border. These people paid more attention to local production, assuming that this would boost the economy of the region. Moreover, they could get organic produce that they knew where it was coming from. The geographic impact of this was these people expanding their lands.

Many people expanded their land to cover even urban regions in a bid to show that they were progressing with the new set up rules of living. As time progressed, most of the urban dwellers appreciated and respected these people, and the reason for this is that they realized that their hard work had not gone without essence. More people started paying attention to traditional means of life and even gathered more massive tracks of land. The Latin American region was very conservative at first. However, the area became open to a broader range of ideas because they noticed that other people in the region were developing and advancing. Moreover, it was hard for the district to produce everything and consequently sought other essential material from the adjacent parts. It is important to note that this was positive for the country; thus o more people benefited from this aspect.

Question 2

Sustainable development is a term that is used to define all the processes and aspects that ensure that the environment is safe. It is important to note that there were very many problems in Latin America, and this is more so relating to the natural resource problem. Natural resources are a part of geography and thus the importance of reviewing the information presented in the book on these problems and also focuses on mitigating aspects to employ. It is possible to note what the environment should be doing to improve production for the sake of all humanity in such areas. It is important to note that sustainable development is the pillar of any community. Initially, nations did not believe in sustainable development and only found in how they would accumulate profit and wealth. However, the contemporary environment has seen a change in the mindset of most of these nations. Instead of focusing on profit generation, they pay attention to customer satisfaction. With the customers satisfied, there is the assurance that the institution will get more money to facilitate more agenda. If the focus remains on the profit generation, there are lesser chances of the nation’s progressing. It is always essential to take the advice of professionals in the modern world. Financial analysts in any given setting are fundamental and ensuring that they gain the attention that is required also provides the progress of a nation despite its political stature.

The resources focused on in the paper are the tourists. The reader of the article is supposed to care because the tourist sources are relevant and influence the lives of people daily. When people showed concern regarding the tourism industry, it becomes possible to resolve some of the problems that may be caused by the lack of visitors. Some people also depend on tourists to do business and also to eat (Bosco & Jackiewicz, 2012). Failure to manage the tourists leads to companies failing and people starving. The state of South Dakota is famous for the many fruits that the climate all-round the year enjoys. The reading source clearly explains how the writer and the brother enjoyed the ripe oranges to the point that they were willing to fake illness to get a bite of them. Despite the research, it is critical to understand that the country has made significant strides in the field of barbecue that has received d worldwide recognition. Fast foods that are present in other countries are also known to have originated from the United States. Mexico has received credit for coming up with more original dishes. Mole, for example, is a traditional sauce present in the country that is used to pour over turkey and, consequently, intensifies the flavour of the meat.

South America is a continent that has many different kinds of food. Various arguments have it that the continent is the one with the highest range of varying foods. Just like the United States, many South American countries have incorporated the cooking of corn. Potatoes are also ordinary in the region, and the reason is that the climates in the area enable the potatoes to grow very fast (Bosco & Jackiewicz, 2012). For seasoning cuisine, pepper is the most common in almost all countries in South America. The region is known for tropical fruits, and this is due to the strategic location close to the beach. Queso Fresco is another common type of food in the country, and this is lightly salted, given that it comes from unripened cow’s milk and cheese. Yucca, commonly known in other areas as Cassava, is another important and common type of food in South America. Going through all these different types of Cuisine in the country enables one to understand that the continent has a wide variety of food material.

There are many strategies that a country can incorporate to ensure that it improves the state of tourism and consequently ensure that the country stays or instead gets an economic edge. One of the aspects needed for sustainable development in Latin America is ensuring that there is a sustainable climate for the people that visit the country. Human practices are the major causes of general problems that are present. If tourists realize that the environment of this region is not quality, they will opt not to visit the area. However, if the climate is conducive, then there is the assurance of sustainable development for people in the country. The reason for having this statement is the fact that with each generation, it is vital to note the benefits that come from the tourism industry.

The knowledge economy is another one that ought to receive recognition concerning how much it contributes to sustainable development concerning tourism in the Latin American region. The more people understand their parts, the better they are suited to develop it better. For instance, Latin American people are supposed to research the highest percentage of tourists in their area comes from which region. After understanding this, then they can make various changes that are according to the needs of these people and thus ensure sustainable development. Different countries or regions have low levels of people that ignore the changes in the economy. However, for the country, it is essential to ensure that there is a considerably huge number of people pleased with the progress made in the economy. As an appreciation to the economy, these people ensure that they work hard for the tourists as well. Tourists are expected to be pleased with the services coming from some of these people, and without this, they can be gravely dissatisfied. Customer satisfaction is supposed to be the holy grail of the tourism industry, and I believe that as time has progressed and changed, the industry has evolved to accommodate more tourists. Moreover, it is possible to have more people making income because these hotels require maids and taxi drivers.

Sustainable development also requires human resource management and understanding. With proper human resource in the airports and the hotels, then it is clear that it is possible to guide these tourists with as much as possible. When tourists expect respect, then there is an assurance that they will revisit the country. It is because of such factors that sustainable development is assured in different countries. Some states have more to offer; hence when tourists visit them, they are put on maps across the world because of the quality work they provide.

As time has progressed, people have managed to visit Latin America from different parts of the world, and all this has been possible given the fact that the region is quite explicit and quality. There are different types of food, and these attract tourists from many areas. Ensuring that the tourists are always attracted is a factor that should be considered by all nations in this region.analysis and comprehension of this assures that the area will get more tourists, thereby boosting the economy.
