Global Warming
1). The results collected from the primary source revealed that the increasing rates of global warming are as a result of the continued emission of fossil fuels that end up clogging at the surface of the earth, making life unbearable in the globe. The source further pointed out that the increase in emission has increased by 2.2% from the year 1995 to 2005. However, this percentage heightens in the years that proceed following the robust growth of industrialization in the globe.
2) The primary source offers a need that it points out as urgency. It later then promotes the idea that the importance should be addressed in the concept of human rights. Agreeably, the protection of human rights is the general goal, but the pressing issue that is very urgent should be the global warming rates that are continually heightening. I feel that the article should have been narrow towards this direction, other than focusing on the overall goal, which is the protection of human rights.
3). Locating the primary source was not a difficult task as I used the key terms in the topic to direct myself to the right source to use in this case. After reading through this source, I learned that it best offered what I was looking for and that through it, I would make a strong argument about climate change. Most importantly, the source provided an aspect of vagueness that I was going to point out as the weakness of the source.
4). The popular article that I used for this activity effectively pointed me towards the scientifically explained causes of climate change. Concerning other research conducted on the same subject, the leading cause of global warming has been identified as resulting from carbon emission, which is mainly propagated by human beings. Secondly, research also points out that global warming is a threat to life and movement, and this explains that reason why mitigation measures must be taken into account. This article further gives accurate data on the rates of carbon emissions and the standards of death related to the increased carbon emissions. In an attempt to appeal, the article urges the political bodies to work together towards the common goal of protecting human rights.
5). The article has effectively employed the use of primary claims. For instance, it explains that global warming is a direct threat to the next generation, the author supports the argument by quoting from the warning of the Lancet Countdown on health and climate change. Ideally, the author effectively incorporates the arguments presented by this other author and later explains the relationship that these two sources have. The common interest, in this case, is the protection of human rights.
6). From the evidence provided by the article, it is evident that the material was neutral. Throughout, it presents specific arguments about the current state of global warming, which it compares with some years back. This is an indication of concern. The article further looks into the causes of global warming and the negative impacts that this warming may have on the human race. For instance, Parncutt explains that “UN Environment (2019) found that “nearly one-quarter of all deaths globally in 2012 could be attributed to modifiable environmental risks, with a greater portion occurring in populations in a vulnerable situation and developing countries”. Ideally, the article addresses its concern towards the welfare of future generations, pointing out a fact that if immediate action is not done, then the coming human race is doomed. Arguably, the article did its best in conveying the message about global warming.
