Health people 2010/2020
Health people plan is a 10-year science-based program started by the department of health and human services of the united states that entails the countrywide promotion of health and disease prevention goals aimed at improving the health of all Americans. The plan of Health people 2020 is as a result of multiyear processes that reflect the contribution of various individuals and organizations. The healthy people program was initially established in 1979 by the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (DHEW), stating that the health priorities of the nation should emphasize disease prevention. The ten-year goals in the plan focused on reducing controllable health risks. The 1979 and 1990 were updated and expanded as part of Health people 2000 efforts by the 2010 program, for example, the 2000 goal on reducing health disparities was reinforced in health people 2010 whose purpose focused on eliminating health disparities (Himmelstein, D. U., & Woolhandler, S. (2015). The healthy people 2020 strengthened the 2010 goals and was presented in December 2010. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
The Health people plan was developed to uplift the health status of all Americans to be achieved by identifying major preventable health threats and establishing countrywide goals to reduce these threats. The Health people plan also determined to ensure equity and quality health lives, prevent disability, injury, and premature deaths, and to improve the health of all social groups. The healthy people 2020 aimed at creating a conducive physical and social environment that promotes and capitalizes on good health for all Americans (Sondik, E. J et al. 2014). Lastly, to improve quality of life, health development and ensure that all people across different age groups engage in health behaviors. The local health department, community, and also employers contribute to the attainment of this goal. For example, guiding and counseling services are offered both at the community and at the health care centers to create awareness and educate people on health practices and ensure they practice healthy lifestyles and behaviors.
Canada’s health care plan involves a universal health cover whereby healthcare is delivered through provinces and territories. Each territory and province has its health coverage plan, and they provide free emergency health services. They also have a government health insurance plan that gives its citizens access to essential medical services. The similarity between the united states health plan and Canada insurance health plans is that it covers all citizens and is funded by the government. They both aim at providing quality health to their citizens and promote longevity. However, Canada’s healthcare plan does not provide total coverage as compared to the US health plan, and the citizens have to acquire extended health plans that cover drugs and dental services costs. It also covers physiotherapy and ambulance transport services.
