Depression Problem
- Depression has increasingly become a public health crisis in the United States.
- According to the World Health Organization, about 15% of the world’s population experience a depressive episode at least once in their life.
- The problem of depression has accounted for disability and deaths of about ten million people which resulted in severe impairments.
- Also, despite depression being one of the contemporary problems, it’s increasing at an alarming rate.

- However, statistics show that among five people affected by depression, and then four of them are women (MacKinnon, 2015).
- Also, women suffer from postpartum depression, with statistics showing that at least one in seven women will experience depression after giving birth.
- A lot of suicides and homicides in the society can be traced back to depression episodes.

Patient Description
- Cecilia is a 30-year-old single mother with three children which she takes care of them.
- Also, the patient has been under medication for ulcers and high blood pressure.
- Cecilia has been suffering from postpartum depression after giving birth to each child.
- The patient has obesity, poor eating habits; also, she has been smoking and drinking alcohol.
Goals of the Assessment
- By the end of the session, Cecilia will be in able to understand the risk factors associated with drinking and smoking.
- Also, the patient will be able to take her prescribed drugs accordingly.
- The patient will be able to handle the challenges in life and lower the adverse outcomes of depression.
- Cecilia will be able to develop proper eating habits and feed on a nutritious diet.
Outcomes of the Assessment
- At the end of the session, Cecilia was able to understand the risk factors of smoking and drinking alcohol with high blood pressure and ulcers.
- Cecilia was able to develop good eating habits by eliminating junk foods in her diet and substituting with a nutritious diet.
- The patient was also able to understand the necessary diet to counter the challenge of obesity and hypertension.
Educational Session
- The educational session involved 2-hour classes which were scheduled on weekdays from 2 pm to 4 pm.
- The education session lasted for thirty days.
- The tools applied included the client’s writing materials and audiovisual materials for the demonstration purposes.
- I also offered handouts to the client to reference and read.
Outcomes of the goals according to Healthy People 2020
- The client was able to develop good eating habits which lead to quality lives according to healthy people 2020 objectives.
- Feeding on nutritious foods promotes good and healthy development since the client was obese.
- Understanding the risk factors for smoking and drinking alcohol correlates with the healthy people 2020 objectives involving the establishment of longer lives free of preventable diseases.

- Understanding the necessary medications for hypertension and ulcers ensures the patient receives equal treatment as others.
- According to the healthy people 2020, the approach will ensure the disparity in healthcare has been eliminated.
- Also, stopping the use of alcohol and smoking will ensure healthy behaviors across all life stages according to healthy people 2020.
