Hilary Hahn’s performance of Brahms
Hilary Hahn’s performance of Brahms: Violin Concerto is one of my best experiences of classical music and entertainment. Hilary Hahn the soloist and violinist, demonstrates her talent and skill in using the violin to make music is soothing to the soul and sweet to the ear. The artists’ collaboration and effectiveness in integrating musical sounds is also amazing. In the music, one could feel the expressiveness of the artists with Hilary as the soloist creating a path and leading transitions to the next phases. The concerto was made up of three movements: Allegro non-troppo, Adagio, Allegro giocoso, ma non-troppo vivace.
The orchestra introduces us to the first movement with a lento base that creates a relaxed or composed feeling. The flute artist creates a largo at a higher pitch which slowly introduces the next theme. The next theme fades away and the orchestra bursts in an Adagietto measure as they close the section. The performance of the orchestra at this point is quite thrilling since it creates energy and makes the audience eager for the soloist. Hilary, the soloist joins at andante making a martele statement, playing every note in different bow strokes, that was followed by a couple of cords that introduce a lengthy arpeggio section. The manner show does this is not only impressive but reveals her mastery of the violin. Honestly, it is still hard to compare her to pother violinists. After the Arpeggio section, the soloist introduces a new theme in allegro. The tempo is fast and Hilary makes rapid bow strokes rapidly and comfortably. In this measure, Hilary creates beautiful melodies which last about four minutes then goes back to the arpeggio section. In a prestissimo measure, Hilary bursts her violin leading to more intense section that makes it lively. It also has a soulful melody that leads to a forte section. The next movement begins with the melody from a solo oboe accompanied by the orchestra. The music is pure and sparkling and the artists are just wonderful and largely exceeded my expectation of this concert. Hillary joins and takes over the melody at a lento measure and takes over the melody. The next section is introduced at a largo with bright violin melody that creates relaxation to the audience. The music from the soloist is colorful and so pure with every note audible to the audience. After a fiery and undulating section, the soloist returns to the first section of the movement at adagietto with the Orchestra playing the music.
The last movement is introduced by a flute with the horn accompanied by the clarinets at a grave measure. The soloist introduces the second theme at the grave measure accompanied by the flute and clarinet. Eventually, the soloist creates rhythmic melodies which are punchy and gets back to the cheery theme at the beginning of the movement, however, the soloist returns at a higher tempo measure creating an andante. This section leads to an arpeggio which is quite fast and flowing. It is in this arpeggio that Hilary shows her prowess in playing different notes at ease and enjoyable. At a presto measure, the soloist introduces the main melody and is accompanied by the orchestra. The music in this last movement is cheerful and bright. The coordination between the soloist and orchestra is amusing since it creates a masterpiece. The conclusion of this movement and concert is characterized by bliss and refreshment. The movement ends with the soloist working out various notes at a prestissimo measure. The music in this phase is fast but also punchy making on nod his or her as every note hit demands everyone’s attention. The concerto ends with a couple of repetition of the main melody which is performed at different tempos with the highest towards the end of the movement.
The performance of the three movements of Brahms, Violin Concerto proves that the group and the soloist great mastery of playing the music. Each artist made a significant contribution to the success of the concert. Hilary’s skills and prowess enhanced a great violin performance that had not been experienced in a while. Notably, the articulation in the last movement was great. One could hear the cross and fast strings that most of the initial players I have listened to tend to ignore or gloss over. Hilary Hahn’s notes in each phase were audible and crisp in a perfect rhythm. The vibrato and the tempo of the performance are outstanding compared to other concertos who seem to work so hard making their music get strange flows or become bizarre in away. Likewise, Hilary’s performance, confident and cheerful, makes the concerto a long-lasting memory due to the great experience. Her warm smile and her hands working so skillfully has led to a personal conclusion that she is one of the great violinists in the nation and is quite a fan of classical music fans.
