Homelessness is perceived as a situation where an individual or a family lives without a permanent, safe, stable, appropriate housing or lacks an intermediate means or prospect and ability to acquire the home. In Canada, the homelessness menace affects over 35000 people each night, and over 235,000 Canadians become homeless at a given point yearly. Among these individuals, groups such as adult men, immigrant women, and children fleeing violence, people with addiction and mental issues, and indigenous people are at high risk of being homeless. Their vulnerability compounded by multiple economic shortcomings contributes immensely to such high susceptibility to homelessness. Homelessness in Canada as a social issue arose from the early 1960s when people the country experienced a large economic depression. Further, homelessness manifests through poverty, migration to urban centers, unemployment, addictions, family violence, divorce, and other social injustices.
