The SDGs are an expansion of millennium development goals, which were established in 2001 by world governments. Achieving the SDGs requires the government to partner with the private sector, citizens, and civil societies to ensure that a better world is created for the future generation (IISD’s SDG Knowledge Hub, 2019). SDGs are built behind the principle of leaving no one behind and emphasizes a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development in the world.

Recruiting foreign nurses

I believe that even if the US and other industrial nations put resources in fixing problems of the nursing shortage, the need to recruit foreign nurses will not decrease. Despite incentives given by governments and private sectors to encourage people to take nursing, there will still be a shortage of nurses. Researchers show that the main causes of the nursing shortage are inadequate workforce planning, resource constraints, poor recruitment procedures, poor retention policies and poor use of available nursing resources, inadequate career support, and poor structures of incentives. Most qualified nurses will not be willing to work under poor conditions anywhere in the world (Nevidjon & Erickson, 2017). Many nurses have taken the option of working away from patient care by joining insurance corporations where they work as case managers or even open up their businesses. Nurses stay away from working in big corporations that underpay them or have long working hours with high workloads that jeopardize patient care. In this regard, the need for recruiting foreign nurses will continue to increase since a majority of foreign nurses seeking greener pastures in the US and other developed nations. Nurses from underdeveloped and developing nations will be willing to work in unfavorable working conditions to support their families back in their native land.
