HOW FIRST EXPERIENCES SEEM SCARING.
The process of learning new things can sound to be a scary experience in someone’s life. Among the difficult things I have ever tried to attempt was the process of learning how to swim.
Once I encountered masses of water intense fear used to engulf me, although I had the decision of learning how to swim as a significant skill of learning.
I had the thoughts that learning how to swim would be a nice activity for me, and that would aid me to become strong physically. Also, I had no idea that engaging in the exercise of swimming would make me a much more confident person than I ever have been in the past. New situations more often than not make me a bit nervous for I do not know the result of the activities involved. I wanted to try this experience irrespective of the consequences that might accompany. I had to fight fear and join my fellow students in the exercise. I went to the bathroom to change and get ready for the activity. Finally, I walked out of the bathroom confidently and stood close to the pool waiting for the other students and the instructor who was chosen to take us through the activity. After a few minutes, the instructor came, and all the other students had arrived. They were older than me, and therefore they seemed to be at ease as they were skillful in swimming. The instructor smiled at us and introduced himself.
Without wasting any single minute, we were all in the pool. One of the other students went by himself into the water, and this was a surprising thing to me how he made to go splashing off using the kickboard and without any help. However, the fact is that the two students had a previous trial with the teacher. I was told to hold on the side of the pool so that I can be taught how to kick for the backstroke. The training begun with the instructor giving me guidelines and then involving myself in the functional area. He held up a kickboard, pulled it over the water while am holding on it and kicking.
Although I had got some tips on the same, things were not such easy on my side although the instructor was patient enough. After a certain period, I was able to use my legs properly well in kicking. After a few weeks, the teacher had taught me the arm strokes. From then on, I had to put my concentration on two things, my legs and arms. Although at first, I had no hopes, things seemed to favor me as time elapsed, and I was in a position to swim freely. It was so nice enjoying the activity after I had gained the experience of swimming.
At first, learning how to swim seemed to be an impossible task for me. After I had been taken through the procedures and the tricks, my determination resulted in something of importance to me. I was able to swim without any assistance. I learned that when anyone is faced by new experiences, there is some fear of the results, but after familiarizing with the situation, one can fight anxiety and the nervous feeling. Although one may not be comfortable at the start of a task, through practicing would aid better the skill and achieve the set goals.
