How uber works

Founded by Travis Kalanick, the Uber application is a technology platform that has brought a revolution in the taxi industry. The uber mobile App allows one to submit the trip request. Uber finds your location and registers it to your GPS data. The request is sent to the nearest uber driver automatically, which alerts the driver of your area. The driver who accepts the offer comes and picks you up and takes your desired destination. The application directs the driver, then calculates the distance and fare and transfers the payment to your driver automatically depending on the payment method you have selected without you having you to say anything. To be able to use the Uber application, one can either Uber App (Android or iOS) or the Uber website. Also, one required to key in their full names, email addresses, and mobile phone numbers. One is also expected to enter their payment method one that they are comfortable; credit card or a debit card. The Uber app can be downloaded from the google play store or the Apple app store.

The uber business model has allowed people to click on their smartphones and have a cab arrive in the shortest time possible. Currently, uber is in approximately 700 cities around the world. The critical goal is to provide a technology that connects drivers and riders. Unlike taxi drivers, Uber drivers do not possess individual licenses; they instead use their cars to offer rides. This is a step by step way in which uber works.

Step 1: A user opens the App

The first step is for the rider to open the App and enter their location (where to box). Review the ride options which come with their price estimation; Uber X, UberXL, UberTAXI, Uber SUV, and UberPOOL. After deciding on the most convenient option depending on your location, time, and availability, tap on it. After tapping on the choice, you will be required to confirm your pick-up place, ensure that you check to make sure that the phone’s location is right. Press confirm pick up.

Step 2: The rider is matched with a driver.

Uber takes a few seconds to locate a driver that is nearby your vicinity. As soon as the request is made, a notification is sent to the nearest driver. The driver has the option to either accept or reject the ride. In case a driver rejects the notification is sent to another driver who is close by after a driver takes the request, the rider receives a notification when the driver is like 1 minute away.

Step 3: The driver arrives to pick up the rider

Once a match has been made, a notification will pop at the screen about the driver. The rider can track as the driver approaches, and also the ETA is shown to the riders screen. From the screen, one can see the driver’s photo, name, rating, and license plate, and contact number. After the driver arrives, you verify each other destination and names; then, you start the ride. When the driver has arrived and noted on his App that you have boarded the car, a new map will show on your screen. One can use it to follow their trip. Also, there is a send status option that can be shared in real-time, which ensures your contacts that you are safe. Friendly drivers ensure that the customers have a comfortable ride all the way.

Step 4: Payment and rating

Once the ride is over, the customer and the driver is given an option to rate each other. This part of the App is crucial as it helps a person know about a driver or a rider before taking a ride with then and whether they can trust them. One is even able to tip the driver and also add a compliment directly on the App.  Payment is handled on the App; however is other countries, people can pay direct to the drivers, e.g., India.

Uber charges a booking fee and a safe ride fee on each ride, which varies from city to city. These fees are added directly to the passenger’s fare. Therefore, uber takes approximately 25% of the total of each ride as commission and the booking fee. When you factor in the commission and the booking fee, the revenue made by Uber is quite high.

Generally, the cash that you give to the driver after the trip sums up the driver’s cut and Uber’s commission and booking fee. However, the Uber app they have made their model unique, which accounts for their increased revenues. One way is that they have different types of cabs to cater to different people. Uber has not limited itself to a particular group of people or cars. They have the Uber SUV for those who want to travel luxuriously, Uber taxi, for those who wish to move in a cost-efficient ride and the Uber Black for those who want to take trips in black cabs. Therefore they end up generating more revenue since they are not biased. Also, in situations where the demand increases, the price per mile rises automatically. This is known as surge pricing. The new price depends on the number of drivers available and the number of people making requests to take trips.

Another means that Uber is generating income is through Uber Eats, an app that allows people to order meals from restaurants for pick-up of delivery. Also, the Uber freight, this App connects the truck drivers with people looking to move their cargo, which works the same way as the cab-hailing App.
