Human Service Profession
Human service field is usually broadly defined, largely focusing on the objective of attaining human needs through an interdisciplinary base of knowledge. It focuses on the prevention and remediation of problems, maintaining a commitment to improving the quality of life of service populations. The human service profession promotes improved systems of service delivery by addressing the quality of direct services and improving accessibility, accountability and coordination among professionals in service delivery. This paper discusses some of the core values of the human service profession that are either more or less descriptive.
The first core value of human service profession is respect for the dignity and welfare of all people. Human service profession ensures that the regard for people’s dignity and welfare is upheld. In doing so, all the people feel equal and appreciated in their different levels of life. This, in turn, helps improve quality of life that they live. This value is more descriptive to me as it brings about togetherness and respect. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
Additionally, promoting self-determination is another core value of the human service profession. In this case, people can control their own life in terms of making their own decisions that impact their lives. Promoting self-determination is ideally an essential task of social work. The value is less descriptive to me because it does not have a significant impact on society at large.
Moreover, another core value of human service profession is honouring cultural diversity. This is a fascinating value as it provides the ability to meet interesting people from other regions. By honouring cultural diversity, it helps bring about respect for other people’s cultural values and activities. This is a more descriptive value since it impacts different societies with diverse cultures.
Finally, acting with honesty, integrity, objectivity and genuineness are other core values of the human service profession. The ability to act truthfully, having strong moral principles and the quality of not being influenced by personal beliefs are all more descriptive core values of the human service profession.
In conclusion, respect for dignity and welfare of all people, promotion of self-determination, honouring cultural diversity and honesty are core values of the human service profession.
