Impact of a Catholic School Education
Catholic school education is unlike any other because these schools develop the whole child, given they understand the multi-faceted nature of child development. Thus, their educational process creates an opportunity for cultivating the entire person by engaging students’ needs for mental, physical, social, and spiritual nourishment. With such, Catholic education has not only helped me academically but also socially in that; it guided me in transforming my younger brother’s behavior.
One evening after my mother had admonished my younger brother for interrupting a conversation, I told him that it was wrong for him to interrupt others because interrupting is a form of stealing, and stealing is against God’s commandment. I went on to explain to him that when he interrupts two people in a conversation, he steals the attention of the person listening and the time of the person talking. My mother was utterly perplexed and she seemed to have no idea as to what I was talking about. She wondered how I had gained that wisdom, and I told her of the beautiful relationship I had made with the school’s patron saint St. Martin de Porres. Years back, this saint had taught us about the value of respecting other people’s attention and time. Therefore, his teachings guided me in correcting the undesirable behavior of my brother for the better.
Catholic school education has a tremendous impact on the lives of students for generations. It has made a positive difference in my life because I did not have to go through anything without after I came to the realization that God wants us to become our best selves. That being said, academics are not forsaken; instead, the intellectual aptitudes are developed as the best way to grow in holiness.
