In the Country we love by Diane Guerrero

In the Country we love is a memoir written by the American actress Diane Guerrero. The book majorly focuses on Diane’s upbringing in Massachusetts, where she was raised by her two parents, who were undocumented immigrants originating from Colombia. However, she was born in the United States, which means she is an American citizen, where she stayed to finish school as she lived with her friends and relatives. Additionally, Diane Guerrero fits into more than one human diversities. She was a student, a female, a Latino/Hispanic, in addition to being from a low-income family.

Diane Guerrero was in high school in Boston, where her friends adopted her after her parents were taken away, and her friends and neighbors adopter her as she went through there high school studies and college, after which she landed her role in television in 2011. She was a female who went through her life strongly and emerged very strong at last. She was both a Latina and an American who was born by immigrants that were illegally living in that Country, which later led to their deportation. She was also from a low-income country where immigrant parents from Colombia tried getting a job to better their living standards, but it was hard. This meant they lived under a hand to mouth income.

Diane was a Latino/ Hispanic, which is an issue of human diversity and race. In the social diversity and race article, it addresses the issue of race. It describes the race as the genetic variations even though racial categories are based on phenotypes, which are products of genetics and environmental factors. Further competition does not involve the geographical isolation of a person. From this reading, I have learned that race is not where one is, but instead, it is the genetic variations of people. For instance, even though Diane Guerrero was born in America, she was still a Latino since her parents where genetically Latinos by race. Their geographical isolation does not determine Their race, but instead, it is genetic theory variations.

Sexual orientation is another human diversity issue that Diane Guerrero fits in. She is a female. From the article on how many sexes and gender? When two are not enough, the sex of a person entails the social status, which is majorly based on the genital appearances of a person. One can either be a male, female, or intersex. When one uses the term sex, it is used to refer to an individual’s biological statuses, which include female, intersex, or males. For instance, the sex status of a person is usually assigned by medical providers, which is based on the visual inspection of the genitalia of the baby. Further, a person’s genitalia is mostly determined by the chromosomes. This information made me think differently about how someone’s genet Aries is determined and what exactly is the meaning of sex of a person, it brought a clear difference between gender and sex. For Diane Guerrero, this reading applies to her since she is a female is an issue of human diversity that falls in the category of sex.

Another diverse social problem that Diane Guererro was subjected to was the low-income family. A low-income family refers to a household that had low income when compared to the other same size household. A family is said to be a low-income one when its income is less than twice the stated threshold and is legible to any governmental assistance. Additionally, the article, states that there is a specific characteristic which show that a family is a low income. The majority of them are highly attached to the labor market, and they highly experience material hardships as compared to families with high incomes. Further, low-income families have high chances of putting off any needed medical care because of financial difficulties. Surprisingly, the immigration state of a family also plays a crucial role in determining the level of income of a household.

An example is where seven out of ten moderate and low-income families, and low or families belong to United States-born citizens while only seven of the high working but low-income families belong to U.S. born citizens. These data indicate that 30percenet of the low-income families and most hard-working belong to immigrants where two-thirds of the immigrant families belong to non-citizens. This information has changed how I perceive low-income families sand what exactly leads to their problems.  It has changed how I view the causes of low-income family and their characteristic. The reading concerning low-income families directly relates to Diane Guerrero’s life, where she was raised in a family headed by immigrants that were non-citizens. So their family situation of being low income can be blamed on the states of the nationality as well as lack of opportunities to work hard to earn a better living standard. Hence Diane was affected by different human diversity issues such as low-income families, being female, and Latino/ Hispanic.
