Interview Question for PhD
In our pursuit to improve ourselves and the society around us, an educational quest in one of the noblest things we can do. We should, therefore, strive to be better each day so that we can positively influence the world around us backed by knowledge and insight. This mantra has been the guiding force in my life, and the reason why, after completing my undergraduate course, I enrolled for a master’s program. With the skillset acquired, I was able to serve as efficient and effective business analysis. However, the personal evaluation revealed that there is a need to improve myself further to be effective in today’s dynamic environment; hence I decided to apply for a doctorate in computer engineering with the University of the Cumberlands.
A doctorate in the field of computer engineering opens the door to learn and acquire skills on a wide range of issues. However, I am personally interested in the field of big data analytics. This is an area I have a keen interest in pursuing and conducting further research to determine innovative ways that organizations can exploit and make use of their data. Having worked as a business analyst, I have had a firsthand encounter with a vast amount of data that organizations generate and receive daily. Despite the hype that surrounds big data and the potential it has, organizations are yet to exploit this area and get the benefits fully.
As a business analyst, the issue of big data and big data analytics is of great interest. Business analysts are tasked with the responsibility of interacting with organizational data and providing actionable insight for the company. However, my current situation is wanting because even though the organization does yield a lot of data, we are yet to come up with an effective way to exploit this data. It is of paramount interest that through research and scholarly pursuits, we can find a way to utilize all the possibilities that are provided by the current technologies. This doctoral program, therefore, provides the desired platform to achieve this objective.
My career experience as a business analyst and a graduate and post-graduate scholar in the field of computer science will go a long way in making the pursuit of this program successful. In this program, I intend to build on skills I have cultivated over the years, sharpen them, and give special attention to the area of big data analytics through research. On the other hand, my experience as a business analyst will provide unique firsthand insight on the pursuit allowing me to be much more effective. The experience will inform the approach taken in the research, the objective and hypothesis formulation as well as narrowing it down efficiently.
My long term goal is to take the knowledge that will be acquired from this program and positively influence the field of business analytics. With a research interest primarily geared towards big data analytics, I intend to build on the current skills that I have in the area of business analysis and acquire more insight that will see organizations get more benefits from their significant data initiatives. It is my goal to use the doctoral program to identify ways that this data can be exploited and see the insights that it yields positively impacting the business industry.
