Keystone species
Keystone species can be described as species that have more influence on the ecology compared to others. Food chain, on the other hand, is a linear network of species from the primary producers to the topmost predators. I think that keystone species are predators so that they can help keep other animals in check. It is crucial to understand that predators have a strong influence on other species that also have an impact on the species lower in the food chain. Being on top of the chain makes it easier for them to increase biodiversity. The keystone predators may influence the ecosystem by preventing some organisms from becoming dominant. For instance, keystone predators can reduce the number of a given herbivore to help control other species. For example, grazers are likely to prevent various organisms from forming becoming dominant in the ecosystem.
There are a couple of things that I found interesting in the video. First, it was interesting to know that predators have more influence on the ecosystem even though they feed o other animals. Another exciting thing about the video is the fact that predators influence the spread of species, even the ones they do not pre on. It is interesting to know that predators can easily change the range of primary producers, which are plants. Typically, one would imagine that the primary producers would have a significant influence on the ecosystem because they are the primary energy providers. For instance, plants are the primary producers, and reducing the plants reduces the herbivores, which in turn would reduce predators. It is not easy to imagine that an ecosystem would be controlled from up-down instead of down up.
