The article analyzes the relationship between knowledge sharing in information and technology, Project management process group. Knowledge sharing is an activity through which there is a transfer of skill, expertise, and information in an organization. Knowledge sharing often leverage the results of a project. The article used qualitative research. The research is conducted on multinational information technology companies. The research consisted of two phases; the first phase was an exploratory phase, which was content-based done on nine interviewees. The second phase consisted of two case studies A and B where data is from six interviewees, and analyzation of documents is through content analysis.
The research enhanced the classification of various forms of knowledge involved in each process group. Also, ways that affect the transfer of knowledge, allowing the organization to improve the results obtained from knowledge sharing. Moreover, the research identified opportunities where process groups can share inter-project knowledge. Sharing inter-project knowledge reduces the repetition of work, project cost, and time. The findings from the study will allow managers to establish opportunities for knowledge sharing in the organization. Also, setting when knowledge is being stored and during the retrial of information. Understanding how employees to transfer knowledge provide a chance of encouraging and limit certain behaviors and create a control mechanism for knowledge management. Resource allocation is facilitated by establishing the technology necessary to support knowledge sharing in project teams and for stakeholders in each process group. The research indicates a conceptual advance by connecting two main areas, knowledge management, and institutional performance management, precisely in the subfields, knowledge sharing, and PMPGs. The study showed knowledge categories within each project management process group and chances to influence the transfer of information to enhance the organization’s finds observed through KS. This work provides a means of assessing whether the mutual information is of a technical or managerial type to maximize interaction and the production of knowledge. The study also adds that a new stakeholder can be given an opportunity as the Service Request Manager for more research involving Knowledge Sharing assignments and performance management. The results obtained in the article can help stakeholders to transfer knowledge in similar IT project settings. The article is useful for a project manager while developing a project scope. First, it informs the importance of knowledge management in a project. Knowledge management is vital since it enhances the performance of a project and improves human resources through the knowledge gained through the transfer of knowledge. The article also is relevant in the development of a project scope since it explains that knowledge sharing is the most critical process of knowledge management (Gomes, Oliveira, & Chaves, 2018). Also, how knowledge is shared from various colleagues and stakeholders through face to face interaction or using emails or blogs in the different project stages. Besides, it reminds the project of the importance of documenting shared information, whether managerial and technical, to avoid repetition of past mistakes and to learn from the mistakes and success.
Also, the article informs that tacit knowledge is the best way to gain information since it is an interactive way to acquire information. Also, the article reports us that it is vital to choose and engage project stakeholders wisely. Depending on the type of stakeholder, each should be allocated in project stages that they are knowledgeable about. It is also essential to engage with the stakeholder to ensure their activities are in align with the project activities and scope required.
One central question I would ask is inter-project knowledge transfer possible in projects from different departments in the same company? Will it reduce costs in the projects?
