LaDonna Reflection
Sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination have been reported in many companies in the United States, including Allied at the JFK International Airport. I believe it is unfortunate that lawsuits have been filed against Allied because some women employees have been subjected to various forms of sexual harassment. Securing an audience with Steve, the CEO of Allied, will allow me to understand the facts about these allegations and also give my opinion on the way forward for Allied.
The first thing I would want to know from Steve would be his position on the previous and ongoing lawsuits against Allied. Being the CEO of Allied, he has a better understanding of the status of these cases against Allied and the specific accusations against the company. While it is unfortunate that these incidences have occurred at Allied, it is equally important to understand the facts and the measures taken by the company to punish the perpetrators. I would specifically want to know from Steve the preliminary actions taken by Allied to bring justice to the victims. This is because sexual harassment is against the UN convention of human rights, and also the labor laws of the United States. I believe if no adequate measures have been taken, then the CEO should take responsibility and step aside for investigations to be completed.
There are several issues that I would probably discuss with the CEO. One of these is to inform him of the need to put in place mechanisms for staff to report any cases of harassment without fear of intimidation. This is the first step in preventing future occurrences of sexual harassment. Additionally, I would let him know that training of employees on their rights at the workplace is also a vital step in addressing cases of sexual harassment. Regarding the lawsuits, I would let Steve understand that he has an obligation to cooperate with the prosecution and provide all the information needed for the fair settlement of the cases. In addition, I would encourage him to fully support the carrying out of a parallel internal investigation on the alleged abuses at Allied. All these will help Allied correct their dented image, while at the same time ensuring justice for the victims and appropriate punishment for the perpetrators. I believe in today’s era of civilization, cases of sexual harassment and discrimination at workplaces should be eliminated. Female employees should be encouraged to reject all forms of sexual advances by men in the workplace and also report any suspicious behavior that amounts to sexual harassment.
