Leadership Program
Organization Introduction
Turlew Oil Corporation is a global petroleum organization headquartered in Bakersfield, California, but it has operations in Mexico and Canada. It is a mid-sized company that conducts hydrocarbon exploration. The organization has four hundred employees, making it a significantly large firm. Turlew Oil Corporation was founded in 1948 in Bakersfield, where it has remained to date. It was one of the leading oil-producing companies in California, with approximately 200 million barrels of oil equivalent and a production capacity of 30 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day. 75 % of its reserves are petroleum, while 25% is natural gas, with all of them being based in the United States. However, the company has been looking to explore other regions in Mexico and Canada.
Leadership Development Strategy
The new leadership development strategy will be implemented in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The organization should begin training programs to ensure that its employees are as responsible as possible. All employees should enroll for at least one three-month session per year. Workers identify more with the values and principles of their organization when they are often reminded about them (Lussier & Achua, 2015). The training programs will ensure that all workers create and uphold a reputable organizational culture. The vision of the program is to ensure that the company does not have to hire external leaders in the future because it will have its home-grown managers who understand its values, culture, and ambitions.

Assessing Leadership Capabilities
Groups will be used to assess leadership abilities among the workers. Each department will have leaders of specific activities. If possible, each employee should have an activity to lead. Consequently, each employee’s leadership abilities will be assessed based on how he or she performs in the activity assigned.
Assessment Tools Used
The leading tools to be used in evaluating the four departments include the disc assessment, Meyers-Briggs, and Gallup strengths finder. Disc assessment measures observable behavior, such as communication skills, motivating team members, and special talents (What are the best leadership assessment tools?). For instance, the sales and marketing departments will require good communicators as their leaders. The Meyers-Briggs style evaluates personality type to determine the most suitable for a particular department (Cherry, 2019). The engineering department requires a skillful leader with a strong personality and ability to make quick decisions. The Gallup strengths finder focuses on an individual’s strengths and ignores his or her weaknesses (Hughes, 2019). It helps people to identify their leadership abilities and work on improving them. This style will be highly suitable in the finance department, where leaders should have specific qualities such as the ability to organize their teams.
Leadership Developmental Methods
The sales and marketing departments will use the developmental job assignment method, which will allow them to acquire leadership skills from the roles and responsibilities they perform. In the finance department, the most appropriate method will be coaching, as it focuses on improving the effectiveness of a leader, which is crucial in finance (Grant & Hartley, 2013). Formal training will be used in engineering because of the technical knowledge and skills required in the department. However, elements of a developmental job assignment will also be incorporated.
Conclusion
As Turlew Oil Corporation expands its operations, it will be important for the organization to have good leadership and responsible workers in all departments. The company should start leadership programs in the three countries of operation, covering all its employees. Such a program will ensure that the company has an identifiable culture, and its leaders will be internal, with the ability to defend its values and principles.
