Los Angeles Juvenile Hall
The paper explores a juvenile detention hall project that will be set in Los Angeles County. The juvenile facility is set to be established in 2020 and will hold a population of 7000 young inmates who include both boys and girls. The facility will cover a perimeter of twenty-two and a half acres piece of land. It will be one of the most extensive juvenile facilities in Canada. The project will have 24 buildings, which include two gym facilities, a chapel, a kitchen, two school buildings, living units, and mechanical areas. The buildings will be enclosed in a well-fenced perimeter wall, which will be 10 meters tall. The perimeter fence will confine the juvenile inmates as well as enhancing their safety. The institution will also install CCTV cameras around their buildings, which will survey the institution activities always. Also, the institution will recruit highly-trained security officers who will be tasked with protecting the inmates as well as maintain law and order in the institution. Besides, the institution will hire highly trained and experienced correctional officers whose role will be monitoring specific inmates as well as promoting their well-being. Some of these employees include the Correctional Counsellor, Parole Officer, Correctional Specialist Officer, Substance Abuse Officer among others. The institution will offer various rehabilitative programs to its inmates. The institution is determined to provide quality rehabilitation and reform policies to its juvenile inmates. These programs aim at preparing the young inmates in coping with the community as well as gaining skills which will enable them to earn their income. The county government is responsible for funding the project as well as providing money for running the institution. The plans have an estimated budget of $ five million.
