Main insights from the case
After a survey was conducted by Calvin, a member of Olivia’s team, he revealed that the target group for the El Diablo series would comprise teenagers, African-Americans, and Latinos as they are the majority users of social media and smartphones. This is a great opportunity. However, the team failed to analyze the impact of its differentiation strategy. There is a portrayed racial difference in the series that would lead to protests, and end up ruining the reputation of Chartoff publishing. This organization has been a famous producer of unique stories, and many customers have trusted their products. They should, therefore, produce materials with nonracial concerns to elevate their sales and reputation. Differentiation is an excellent strategy, but it is not applicable in elements such as race, color, and language, especially in a limited demographic area.
Insights from the reading
Starting a business is never a challenging task when someone has capital. However, maintaining and sustaining the success of the company is where the task lies. Many people tend to take short cuts for the success of the business, concentrating on the short term benefits rather than considering the long term profits. Business management should take more sophisticated tacks and first evaluate the needs of their domestic targets.
Relation to my present or future
In every stage of life, decision making is paramount. I will find myself in situations where I must make decisions, especially in a leadership position. I have to make unique decisions, and consider their alignment to consumer needs and organizational goals. Having a culture that invests in employees and their community is critical than concentrating more on profits for a firm. Such a culture automatically brings success with time.
