Marvel’s first strategy

Marvel’s first strategy was to deliver little unique work in addition to me-too knock-offs comic strips. This strategy thrashed into the red ocean facing a lot of competition and threatened the business to close. In 1960 the chief editor, together with his colleagues, developed a burst of creativity that saw the business thrive into the blue ocean. The idea of non-customers college students was the ideal innovation that helped this turnaround. Marvel focused on characters that were ordinary people at first and became superheroes second. Mostly these transformations were due to accidents or something of that nature. Shortly after this spurt, MarvelMarvel developed the other character, the Avengers. This character is ordinary people that are gifted with superpowers. Currently, that managed to eliminate factors that reduce the competition and have ultimately thrived into the blue ocean.

Marvel history has been one of its own. It has downsized and thrived and tuff economic time and has at one point of the other threated to close due to a reported bankruptcy. There are one character and a strategy that is very conspicuous in Marvel’s history. Every time the organization faced a red ocean and competition became high, there was a strategy that helped them out. In 1960 the plan to shift to non-customers made them thrive much in the comic business. Later after Marvel reported for bankruptcy, the management quite stabilized the market. This was when Maisel, who worked at Creative Artist Agency (CAA), came in and proposed that there was a need for licensing character Marvel to make good profits; hence they needed a movie studio instead. Theses strategies affected development by always giving them an upper hand over their competitors and thriving in business too.

In the red ocean, the business focuses on strategies that help them compete in an existing market. Marvel found the need to strategize and move to attract non-costumers so that it would change the way they did business and target more people hence more income and also have a competitive advantage over their rivals. In the blue ocean, a business venture into a new invention that has not been executed before. In this case, MarvelMarvel came up with a strategy to have characters that were normal people at first and then became superheroes. This invention helped them thrive in business.

The best and the most competitive approach by MarvelMarvel happened from 1999 to 2002 under CEO Peter Cuneo, who first understood the need to expose their brands globally by the acquisition of licensing of all media and Television and movie shows together with clothing. This strategy attracted so many partners. By spreading their intellectual property, MarvelMarvel released X-men in 2000 and since then have had the most excellent record for action movies. Video games to acts are the second revenue generators for Marvel after Toys. Licensing was the most excellent approach because it launched Marvels turn around.

Marvels have had a strong foundation, this, together with a huge capital base, has been its greatest strength even during tough economic times. Additionally, the uniqueness and the creativity with its filmmaking community have made its character very popular in the movie industry. This, and the high number of its loyal customers, has dramatically helped Marvel make sales even in the competitive world. There is a weakness with the new Marvel characters who have superpowers because most viewers do not understand by viewers and often prefer the old characters. The cost of production and innovation is high, and these expose them to competitors who may have a huge capital base to explore more.

There is an opportunity in yet developing more character in the industry. Marvel, with its current resources, can use this opportunity and take steps ahead in developing this great competitive advantage. Also, MarvelMarvel can explore new characters in games that are popular with the young generation and the young adults and maximize their profit. To stay forward of the competitors, MarvelMarvel need to advance in the character development is expensive. DC, a film industry, has been on the ground to try to catch up with MarvelMarvel and attract customers globally, this is a significant threat to MarvelMarvel in case they can match their standards.

Value extraction means adopting necessary value from both internal and external shareholders by working out a competitive marketplace towards an organization’s advantage. Values extraction can either be legal or illegal, depending on a country’s regulations and rules. In our context, MarvelMarvel hired Peter Cuneo and Maisel to help restore the blue ocean through value extraction. Value evaluation, on the other hand, is defined as a process through which a company acquires a new technology or adopts a technology upgrade to assist in deafferenting its products at a minimum cost. Marvel movie franchise that was cost active made them enjoy uncontested markets throughout.

The main issue at hand is the fight between the head of studio Feige and Perlmutter. Feige wanted more budget allocated to captain America and Civil wars filming. As a result, Feige petitioned that the movie be reassigned from Perlmutter and also waged his Civil war. The creative committee has there been dissolved due to this fight.

Through induction or competency values, Marvel generated characters that were initially ordinary people and later became metahumans. This move left no room for competitors to do imitations hence opening up new market globally. As a result, MarvelMarvel made great sales and realized high profits. The alignment of the introduction of toys, comic books, trading cards, and character licensing also played a great in Marvel’s profit margins.

Reading from the existing market, I would highly recommend that MarvelMarvel put more emphasize and develop the current superheroes. This is because more of their customers are aware of these characters, and preparing them would create more fun for viewers and, most importantly, save the cost of building new characters. Developing other characters means more capital will be required, and it will take quite some time for people to get to know these new characters.

Marvel history has excellent lessons that we learn from decision making, strategies, and the ups and downs in life. The whole scenario of the red ocean and the blue ocean keeps occurring in the history of MarvelMarvel. A red ocean, the company was faced with high competition, and lack of action could see them out of business. Creativity came in, characters were brought, and there was a burst.  In the blue ocean, strategies were made to ensure there was stability in business and venture to capture new demand and ensure that the competition that exists is irrelevant. This lesson is very common in our lives because they give us the reason not to quit when we are facing hard times. Instead assures that through strategy and focus, we can get through challenges and thrive again. Moreover, the blue ocean teaches us not to be in a comfort zone rather to be innovative and always explore to achieve more. The whole history also prepares us business-wise through the value innovation strategy and value extraction that are very evident in the current businesses.
