Masculinity
Antonio de Moya says that masculinity depends on a kind of self-policing among a society’s members because the society into which a male human is born helps to shape their identity as man. De Moya explains that being born male is not enough to establish masculinity in the child. The community members need to make them conscious of the acceptable and non-acceptable behavior for males. They point out to child the growing male child the acts that do not match masculinity and encourage them when they behave more masculine. These inputs guide the child later on to adopt male tendencies especially during adolescence when they are trying to establish their identity. As such, the society acts as self policing establishment to determine the values that they want to foster regarding masculinity.
I believe that the two genders should occupy separate but complementary roles in their communities. Indeed, nature helps to define the males as being different from females. Women naturally look up men for protection and support in life. Therefore, as the documents detail, it is important that the elder members of the community help the growing male children to adopt stronger viewpoints of their responsibilities as men. Also, it is vital that communities fashion their opinion and expectations of masculinity after the changes that come with the passage of time. Such an existence would ensure that the society keeps reaping the benefits of masculinity in different times.
Himpathy refers to the unprecedented sympathy men receive from their colleagues the female victims of their atrocities. This trend stems from the fact that majority of men have engaged in one or the other vice and feel that if they fail to support their own, their victims may gain courage to smoke them out. Thus, they dismiss the any accusations against each other as baseless, malicious or outdated and thus not warranted.
