Medical malpractices

Medical malpractices are the medical errors that occur when a medical or a health practitioner causes an injury to a patient. The effects of medical malpractice are severe and are responsible for various issues and challenges that have enormous effects on patients. Medical malpractice can lead to extensive damage to the patient, and this includes damage to the vital parts of the body, injuries, and sometimes may lead to death. Can medical malpractices occur in any country? Medical malpractice is a critical issue across the world. They are more common in some countries than others, as shown in the case of Sweden, Egypt, and the United States.

The occurrence of issues of medical malpractice varies from country to country. The medical facilities in developed nations such as Sweden, where I grew up, have put measures and strategies in place in case of medical malpractice. These are one of the issues in some third world countries such as Egypt, my parents’ home country. Egypt is one of the countries that are facing enormous challenges on the issue of medical malpractices (Ragab et al, “Analysis of tonsillectomy malpractice claims in Egypt: 2010–2015”). Various cases of medical malpractices have continued to be reported in Egypt, which has damaged the reputation and the place of healthcare in the country.

The relationship between patients and health practitioners has been viewed in many different aspects since the discovery of medicine. Initially, it was viewed through the perspective that specialists practiced medicine as a calling and a duty to their patients, without specific laws to protect the patients. In today’s society, due to the increase in the rate of medical malpractice, a doctor’s first duty is to ensure they use reasonable care, judgment, and skill in their professional practice, and in case of any negligence- full responsibility has to be taken. Over the years,

medical malpractice has continuously been an issue. Medical malpractice takes place when a doctor or any other personnel in a hospital provides poor treatment or fails to take appropriate action when attending to a patient.

Errors in medical practice can happen in diagnoses, prescriptions, surgery, aftercare treatment, or health management. According to research, the most common medical malpractices occur through medical errors, which has harmed an approximation of 250,000 patients annually in the United States (Sipherd, “The third-leading cause of death in US most doctors don’t want you to know about”).

Another negative aspect of malpractice is that doctor’s fear of committing an error and being sued, which could result in inadequate medical care. There are procedures that involve higher risks and immediate actions without second-guessing, and in some cases, doctors may choose stick to conventional treatment methods, even in fatal situations, for fear of mistakes that could worsen the patient’s case and result to a lawsuit (Gant, “If doctors fear being sued, taking away that fear might help patients”). It is, however, better to insist on these settlements as they make doctors take ultra-care and look for better options of approaching the situation. That is because doctors often make lethal mistakes that cause death, suffering, pain, brain damage, or scarring.

Without a doubt, both patients and health care providers have suffered through the various effects of medical liability throughout the years. Patients depend on doctors every day and trust them to deliver efficiently. We need practitioners to be able to give their best in their attempts to save lives, but at the same time, not to have a fear of making errors. Legal and

medical barriers obstructing the reduction of medical malpractice must be addressed for better provision of healthcare services to all citizens in society.

Although systemic problems are the central issue in medicine today, I would propose the formation of any federal agency to specifically address medical malpractice. The specific task of such an agency would be the collection and analysis of data on medical errors in order to be able to come up with recommendations on reliable procedures regarding the reduction, control, and elimination of fatal and non-fatal errors. With the reduction of medical errors properly addressed, any doctor or health care provider who causes damages will have to take full responsibility. Whether we choose to adjust our system or not, medical malpractice is a critical issue across the world, and must be addressed.
