Men Advantages
The rights advantages that men enjoy due to the nature of their gender refers to privileges. The idea of how perfect the man is to a particular society causes variation in the benefits enjoyed. In this chapter, Rosa Lopez, a Salvador house manager who worked for 25years in the United States, appears was taken to a court of law as a witness during the trial of O.J Simpson’s murders case. However, Lopez being a Spanish from a poor background, could not communicate thus the importance of an interpreter (p. 270).
However, Christopher Darden, the prosecutor used his position in court to criticize Lopez. This is an example of women intimidation when men are in power. Lopez, having come from a poor background, could not express eloquently in court for fear of being threatened or attacked after the proceedings. To instill fear on Lopez, Darden based her insincerity by citing the many names, dates, and addresses on her documents signifying the lack of freedom on women from men in the society. On the other hand, the judge could have demanded some respect from Darden but chose to ignore it since he was a man. Darden was inconsiderate of Lopez’s feelings even after losing her daughter during wars; instead, he continued to criticize and victimize her. In today’s world, the notion of men being superior to women is decreasing due to improved technology. For example, men in modern society are involved in activities that were directed to women in ancient times. Dishwashing, cooking, baby-nursing are examples of activities considered for women, but men perform comfortably. Modern society should encourage gender equation, not considering age, race, or gender.
