Metrics in IG governance

Overview

To run a successful Information Governance (IG) program in a company, the information risk planning and management steps need to carry out eight significant steps to achieve the goal. One of the eight steps is to establish and develop metrics for results.

Metrics in Information Governance projects

Metrics is an essential tool in an organization which helps in providing security and helps the company out in legal procedures. It is an essential tool that is used by organizations to look after their businesses. For an ongoing process, metrics provide the necessary numerical information required. They also tell the organization about the functioning of the process and its performance (Nuñez, Fernández-Gago, & Luna, 2016). Metrics as a whole is challenging to explain to the employees. They should find out about it themselves, or it might not function as planned. However, it is advisable to provide some of the data to a limited number of trusted employees, who will not share the data with others..

In IG processes, metrics play a crucial role as it determines the success or failure of the process (Earley, 2016). The definition of success is critical, as a selection of the metric would depend on it. Once successes are defined, it will determine the selection of the performance metrics for the program. This, in turn, varies with the organizational goals. Also, metrics help the employees to handle the company data effectively and regulates the data handling policies within the company.  Governance programs driven by metrics become points at which information is integrated into the system. The shareholders can be added to the metrics so that transparency is maintained between them and the company.

Conclusion:

Metrics in information governance is one of the essential tools which is used by the organization to measure the success of a program. It can also be used for a variety of purposes.
