Mid-range Nursing Theories
Nursing is based on the provision of care to patients and helping the patients to understand self-care when the nurse is not around. Nursing is based on several theories, and mid-range forms part of the nursing theory. Although mid-range theories are shallower than grand theories, their contribution to the healthcare field cannot be overlooked. One of the most common fields where mid-range theories of self-care are applicable is in the treatment of chronic diseases. Mid-range theories provide an effective link between nursing practice and grand nursing theories.
The application of mid-range nursing theories has been seen in the provision of self-care among patients with chronic diseases. The article by Riegel et al. (2019) presents the application of the mid-range nursing theory of self-care in the treatment of chronic diseases. The applicability of mid-range theories in nursing provides a chance for developing holistic care among patients who need self-care. Salazar-Balazaj et al. (2017) also assessed the impact of mid-range nursing theories on aging individuals and came up with positive results. The aging population requires the freedom to take care of their lives, and that can only be achieved with proper development of self-care. For example, I received a client who was in a veteran home but was not satisfied with the idea of having medical practitioners helping them throughout. The mid-range nursing theories can be employed to assist such clients in conducting self-care.
In sum, the application of mid-range nursing theories provides an effective link between nursing practice and grand nursing theories. Self-care is essential as it helps in the holistic provision of care, and patients can take care of some of their health needs. Mid-range nursing is shallower than the grand theories but should not be overlooked.
