Miracle Mile

Introduction

The industry of art is quite diversified. Different artists have different styles of expressing their thoughts through the use of images, auditory media, modeling of artifacts, and many more ways of expression. Arts are handy tools for communicating with society. One piece of art that is positioned strategically can be used to address a considerable population of people over a long time of time. The Museums contain artwork that dates even centuries back but still plays significant roles in educating the modern world about the way of life many centuries back. They provide a rich source of history to humankind. Artwork can be categorized into sculptures, paintings, and architecture. Each of the three branches above has several elements

Development of the Miracle mile

A miracle mile is a form of art that was established in the year 1921. The miracle mile falls under the architectural branch of art. It was a twenty feet stretch of road that was characterized by wells of oil and land fields filled with barley. The development was heavily criticized and expected to fall. However, the emergence of the automobile, its rapid growth and evolution brought freights of shoppers from all over the country to the Miracle mile. The automobile industry helped to transform the district from a dusty cow path to a commercial miracle center. Currently, the place is a host to various museums and also plays a role of home to numerous historic Art Deco structures. There is a rich story that explains how the once a cow path part of a road was transformed into an important commercial center. Various photographic archives tell the story about the region. The account is also associated with the issue of the decentralization of Los Angeles (wpp_626458 & wpp_626458, 2019). The developer of the architectural plan for the Miracle mile was motivated to do so by the arising problem of housing in the region and also by his ability to foresee the influence of personal automobiles on the settlement. The architecture of the last mile relied on the impact of the car for its success. Just like the Miracle mile had outdone the pedestrian-oriented settlement, it was too overpowered by the emergence of suburban shopping malls in the locality. During the years of the 1980s, the mile-long stretch was referred to as a slum. The city declared a miracle mile as a historic district to attract revitalization and art to enhance the development of the new architectural design for the structure in the community. However, most of the private property owners in the region rejected the call.

The industries that came to rescue and facilitate the development of new faces for the district were museums and office buildings but not residential structures. The district provides homage to various big. It also provides homage to various publications in Los Angeles (wpp_626458 & wpp_626458, 2019). Ross insisted on having a distinct design for the buildings in the district. The move is associated with some of the most beautiful Art Deco Buildings in America. The district contributes significantly to the history and evolution of the city. The Bullock’s Wilshire Department store building had unique and impressive Art Deco Design. It was unique in that it was well planned to suit its purpose. The building had large clear windows meant for the display that was visible from the streets, with its main entrance facing a considerable adequate parking ground.

Display of Lights of Different Colors Reflecting the Miracle Mile on Wilshire Boulevard

The miracle mile has applied a significant and noticeable use of light in the artwork. A combination makes a piece of art created in the year 2013 by Robert Irwin of two branches of art: architecture and sculptures. The piece of art is 36 feet in length. It takes advantage of the effects of light using 66 fluorescent light tubes. Palm trees are positions at the forefront of the glowing fluorescent tubes. The cells are covered with some special kind of gels that have shades that range from red to green color effects. The color effects on the shadows also range from bright colors to dark colors (wpp_626458 & wpp_626458, 2019). The colors have no specific pattern of appearance. There is also no defined pattern of the intensity of light emitted from the tubes. However, the result is so cool that one would think the artist responsible for the work left it intentionally to achieve the cooling effect. The cells strategically position such that a reflection of light from the windows where the cells are is beautifully cast between the palm trees that are right in front of the windows. The views are permanently on and thus visible to the public all throughout the year. The creation is purposed to challenge the viewers’ perception because of its many angles of viewing. One can have a different view of the art in the morning, afternoon, and even during the evening. Another way is viewing the art form outside the building or from inside the building. It is with no argument that the piece of art outdoes the traditional techniques of plain sculptures and oil paintings.

The Relationship of Miracle Mile Art to its Social Context

The society can hide the fascination brought about by art. Arts are handy tools for communicating with society. One piece of art that is strategically positioned can be used to address a huge population of people over a long time of time. The Museums contain artwork that dates even centuries back but still plays significant roles in educating the modern world about the way of life many centuries back. They provide a rich source of history to humankind. There are many types of art in Miracle Mile (wpp_626458 & wpp_626458, 2019). They range from the design of the buildings in the district all the way to the installation arts in the form of lighting. The art has a great influence on the social aspect of people’s lives in Miracle mile. It has formed a landmark in the history of the district. Initially, Miracle mile was referred to as a slum. Nevertheless, art has the role of influencing peoples’ social values by changing their opinions. It also acts as a database for society to stores its historical memories.  But with the emergence of architectural artwork, the miracle mile was able to grow and develop to be one of the most beautiful cities in the history of America. Arts instills values in society by transforming experiences that occur across space and time
