MORALITY AT STAKE
Morality stands for principles and standards derived from known philosophies, religion, and culture or from ethical standards believed to be universal. Morality thrives through the attributes of goodness and rightness. Truthfulness is a common component that should always be a part of any business entity for it to get trusted ny customers. The play ‘The Dove Strikes Back’ is a classic example that defies the norms of morality. The play is set up on the disagreement that arises between the customers and the management. Miss Mitford and her friend are forced to pay extra money for the food that they ordered. Despite that the food is awful, it is costly. Miss Milford and her friend are denied a chance to pay for the grain using a cheque, yet that is the only alternative they have. The manager threatens to call the police and takes Jackets belonging to Miss Mitford as a ransom.
The play opens with Miss Mitford and her friend visiting the Sign Of Dove’s hotel and ordering food. The prices of the food are high; there are also additional charges which do not seem to be genuine. Miss Mitford does not have enough cash to pay for the food and tries to pay by check, which the waiter refuses. The waiter threatens to call the police, and this makes Miss Mitford and her friend leave their coats as a hostage. I agree with the waiter that after every service rendered, payment should be made. The waiter ought to have explained to Miss Mitford how the total summation of the bill arrived. It could have helped th author to know. The manner at which the hotel handled the situation leaves a question mark; a proper mode of handling customers who do not meet the bill should be devised. It is wrong for the waiters to hold Miss Mitford’s coat as a ransom, yet the waiter is aware of the chilly weather on that day.
Miss Mitford is frustrated by th situation at the hotel and reports the matter to the New York magazine journalist. The story is published, and it receives a massive audience, other customers who have had bad experiences from the restaurant comes out and share their chilling experiences with the author. I agree with the new york magazine to take time and finally publish Miss Mitford’s story; this exposes the rot that has secretly been going on and creates awareness among potential customers who could have fallen victims to the hiked prices of the restaurant. The sign Of Dove hotel retaliate by blackmailing Miss Mitford bt saying that she was drunk on the day of the visit, they go-ahead to publish that Miss Mitford has was before charged with disorderly behavior in four different accounts. It implies that the restaurant is quilty and legal measures ought to have been taken against it.
After the successful publication of Miss Mitford’s story, The Sign of the Dove restaurant losses customers, the saga behind this gets massive attention from the media. It inspires the creation of a short television series. It is an achievement because it now serves as a reference to any other practicing the same scheme as the Doves restaurant. All credits should be given to Miss Mitford for her bravery to share her experience with the media and hence, the people.
The play has clearly shown how morality relates to work. The Dove Sign restaurant is not following ethical processes in handling their customers; they do not value the trust and innocence of the customers. Miss Mitford’s case serves as an eye-opener to the rotten system of the restaurant. It is through her that the restaurant begins to see the importance of creating an excellent environment to attract customers.
